Obituary

Marie Blanche Mason

December 31, 1942- March 17, 2021

It is with deep sadness that we regret to announce the sudden passing of Marie Blanche Mason on March 17, 2021 at the age at 78 years in Red Deer Hospital. Marie was born December 31, 1942 in Eckville, Alberta to the parents of Louise and James Knight. The family lived and grew up in Caroline, Alberta.

Marie was the oldest of 10 children: Marie, Robert, Kenneth, Leonard, Larry, Donna, Jeannette, Dianne, Joan, and Peter. Marie moved to Rocky Mtn. House in 1959.

Marie married Allan Fink in November 1961. They had 5 children together: Larry, Darrell (Shelley), Dwayne (Grace), Tashia (Craig), and Ken (April). They were divorced in December 1974, and Marie met the love of her life, Elmer Mason on October 28, 1988 at a Halloween party. Marie was dressed as Elmer's favorite drink, a Budweiser beer bottle. He asked her to dance, and the rest is history. They were married August 2, 2003. Elmer has 3 children from a previous marriage: Marie, Colleen, and Shane. Together Marie and Elmer have 14 grandchildren, Marie's 1st grandchild, Alannah Marie, being especially close and special to both her and Elmer. As well 13 great grandchildren, and many adopted sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, and many more grandchildren.

Marie was very a talented woman. She was exceptionally good with a sewing machine as she made many matching outfits for her 5 children, snowsuits for the grandkids, and so many other amazing things for her loved ones. She also knitted and crocheted many blankets, scarves, toques, mittens, etc. you name it, and Marie could make it. scrapbooking was another hobby Marie loved doing as she spent countless hours creating beautiful handmade cards, memorable scrapbooks for weddings, graduations, and some just because she loved doing it so much.

To Marie, family was everything. She enjoyed cooking and over feeding people, gardening, and camping. She loved spending as much time as she could with her grandkids, baking cookies, doing crafts, and making cards. She also loved her puppy Little Girl very much. Her love for her family had them going on many wonderful, memorable holidays together. Marie always brightened up any room and always made everyone feel loved and welcome. She never had a bad thing to say about anyone and always saw the best in everyone.

Marie was always such a hard worker. In her younger years she often worked 2-3 jobs to support her 5 rotten kids. She was always helping or putting on family reunions which were not an easy job for our large family. In later years she worked as a receptionist throughout businesses in Rocky Mountain House. Marie could be stubborn, as red heads often are, she retired and went back to work 4 times before she actually decided to enjoy retirement. She definitely deserved it.

Marie was an extraordinary woman who will be missed tremendously by so many people. Marie is predeceased by both her paternal and maternal grandparents; Elizabeth ('74) and David ('54) Knight, Blanche ('80) and Pierre ('82) LeCerf, parents, Louise('03) and Jim('0l) Knight, her brothers, Robert('44), Larry('52), Kenneth ('20), her son Larry('92) and Elmer's daughter Colleen('l3).

No funeral service will be held as per Marie's wishes, instead a get together to remember her will be held sometime during the summer.

Memorial donations in Marie’s name may be made to the Kidney Foundation.

We were shocked to learn of Marie's sudden passing; her loss leaves a huge void for so many loved ones and friends. She was a remarkable woman and it was heartwarming to see she and Elmer over the last several years be out and about and enjoying life; without a doubt family meant everything to them. Sending our most sincere sympathies to Marie's entire family...
