Obituary

MacKay, Sherry Annette

1967-2021

Sherry Annette MacKay was born to Emard, Diana Marie born in Rochdale England and Reinhardt, Donald Arthur born in Medicine Hat Alberta on November 30, 1967. She attended school in Medicine Hat, grew up and found employment, and started her adult life there. Eventually, Sherry gave birth to and started raising 3 children, Matthew, Melodi and Taylor, while still managing to hold a job to support her family. Over the years she found herself in various locations around Alberta like Lacombe, before finally settling down in Rocky Mountain House where she met and fell in love with James Stuart MacKay and his two boys, Alex, and Arron.

Sherry and James met on Feb 20th, 2004, and on May 1st, 2004, they married claiming they had married their best friend, sometimes you meet a person, and you just know that this is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.

For the next 17 years, Sherry showed everyone her generous spirit, integrity and love for her family and friends. If you were fortunate enough to know Sherry and be called friend, you were a friend for life, and she would move the heavens to help you if required. Because of a large, blended family of 5 children, Sherry sometime took the odd job and found herself working for extra foods gas bar and Canadian Tire for a while. Eventually, Sherry was blessed with grandchildren and over the next 10 years, stayed at home to help raise and spoil all of them at every opportunity.

Due to economic conditions and the covid pandemic, work was slim, and Sherry was resigned to going back to work to help make ends meet, where she found work as a cab driver for Action Ace cabs. She loved her job and her clients even more, going that extra mile to ensure their travels were safe and the service they received was professional. On May the 7th, the UK variant swept into the MacKay home, making her granddaughter, husband, and herself very ill. Sherry found herself in the Red Deer Hospital Covid ICU ward, where sadly after weeks of battling covid pneumonia, and then another bout of pneumonia while in their care, she passed away with her family at her side on June 10th, 2021.

Sherry was predeceased by her mother Diana in 2002 and her father Donald in 2011.

Sherry is survived by her Husband James MacKay, her children Matthew Beatch (Nicole), Melodi Beatch (Derrick), Taylor Beatch, Alex MacKay, and Arron MacKay. Her grandchildren Lukis Beatch, Drew Bailey, and Remi Beatch along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the Rocky Hospital for the care they provided James and Remi and the Red Deer Hospital Covid Team for everything they could do for Sherry. The Rocky community is a very generous one and we would like to thank everyone who has offered their help and support during this time.

A celebration of her life will be conducted sometime in the near future when we can all be together again, and not be scared to hug one another or hold each other’s hands.
