Obituary

We announce the passing of Lola Marie Chisholm and gratefully acknowledge her full life well-lived. Lola passed away peacefully on January 20, 2025, just after her 96th birthday.
Born in Hardisty, AB on January 11, 1929, to parents Burt and Molly Arnold, the little family of three soon relocated to a farm outside of Millet where Lola would spend her childhood and youth. Although she lost her father in 1963, Lola forever remembered him fondly and devoted herself to caring for her widowed mother until Molly Arnold died in 1990. Lola was an only child but loved spending time with her cousins and other extended family, which she did on a regular basis into her 80s.

Lola married George Herbert Chisholm in Millet, AB on August 28, 1950. Although Bert and Lola both spent much of their youth in Millet and attended school there, they didn’t date seriously until Lola moved to Edmonton. Bert and Lola enjoyed married life – they dined and danced and met with friends as often as they could.

Lola and Bert welcomed three children to their family and Lola was a proud mother who fiercely protected her family. She was well-known for voicing her candid opinion. Lola was a devoted wife and dedicated herself to helping Bert succeed. They lived in a variety of communities: Edmonton, Lethbridge and Moose Jaw, SK, but finally settled in Wetaskiwin in 1979 after farming outside of Millet for eight years in the early 1970s.

Although Lola had always been a homemaker, after moving to Wetaskiwin, she got a job at a local dress shop, The Betty Shop, and soon found herself working as the store manager. Lola became involved in local fashion shows, organizing them and participating as a model.
Lola had style. She was elegant and carried herself well and loved to shop for clothes and jewelry. She was active in the Wetaskiwin Seniors group, helping prepare and serve luncheons, and she and Bert also served as co-presidents for the local square dance group. Lola was always ready to have a coffee and chat, either out with her friends and family or visiting couples that she and Bert knew in the community. Bert and Lola loved to travel to B.C. to see family and be in the mountains, and in their retirement, they took longer trips down to warmer destinations in the U.S.

Lola is survived by her children Keith Chisholm of Wetaskiwin and Lisa (Ken) Rougeau of Rocky Mountain House and by her four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Bert with whom she shared 54 years of marriage and by her oldest son Dwight Chisholm of Keremeos, B.C. who lost his battle with cancer last year.

Lola’s ashes will be laid to rest at the Millet cemetery in a family service later this spring. Lola Marie Chisholm's legacy of integrity and independence will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. May she rest in peace.

Condolences

Mary O'Toole:

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother and brother. Luckily your mother passed peacefully and at a good age, but it is always hard losing a mother and brother. Time does help to heal. Mary

Chantelle McMullin:

What a beautiful tribute to your mom. She was always a delightful force of nature.

Marilyn:

Lovely obit Lisa. I remember her well. Also your dad. I am old enough to remember them dating and coming up to uncle Martin and aunty Trula Moens. The Moen girls were similar aged. Now she knows more than we do about the knowledge of heaven. Hugs
