In lieu of flowers, take a walk with Mona by visiting a berry patch, wandering along the river, enjoying a late-night fire, or sharing a special memory with a loved one.
Mona Maureen Medin joined the Creator on July 19, 2024.
Mona was born in Rocky Mountain House to Stan and Irene Medin on March 19, 1958. She grew up on the family acreage west of Rocky Mountain House with her seven siblings. Mona attended school in Rocky Mountain House.
In her adult years, she married and had three sons: Jamie, Robert and Shane. She spent many hours chasing her sons around and providing the very best life for them. She continued to be an active and loving part of her sons’ families when her cherished grandbabies came along.
Mona spent many years working with children and was a support to many at the Rocky Native Friendship Centre and Head Start.
Mona became a very respected community member who shared Indigenous teachings through programs at the National Historic Site, and local schools.
Her very best times were when she was picking berries, walking in nature, watching a late-night fire, attending Round Dances and Pow Wows, and of course storytelling.
Mona was survived by her siblings Earl (Karen), Ed (Millie), Richard (Elaine), Iona (Adrian), Evan (Jacquie), Len (Judy), and Clint (Cathy). Her sons Jamie (Ricci), Robbie (Jana), and Shane, and numerous grandchildren, nephews and nieces. Mona was also survived by her dear friends Mark and Joanne, who were a part of her life for many years. She is pre-deceased by her parents Stan and Irene Medin.
A celebration of Mona’s life will be held at Thomson Acres on August 31 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, take a walk with Mona by visiting a berry patch, wandering along the river, enjoying a late-night fire, or sharing a special memory with a loved one.

We have known Mona since she was a little girl and there has always been something special about her. There is a sweetness and gentleness that generated from the very heart of her and whenever we happened to meet there was one of those hugs that reminded us of her mom's hugs. The world won't be the same without her. May the memories of her comfort you.
