Obituary

Janice Helena Wolter, age 82, passed Sunday March 2, 2025. Born on January 27, 1943, in Camrose, Alberta, she was the beloved firstborn Erna and Reinhold Wolter. Janice spent her early years on the family farm near Armena, Alberta, where her love of learning and curiosity about the world began.

After high school, she studied at Prairie Bible College. She attended Calgary General Hospital for three years and obtained her nursing diploma. She pursued a Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Alberta, which led her to work in public health in Wabasca, Alberta. Eager to expand her skills, Janice moved to Scotland to study midwifery and later completed a Health Visitor’s course, allowing her to work as a public health nurse in Glasgow. She spent 9 years in Scotland before returning to Alberta, where she continued her work in healthcare. Never one to stop learning, Janice later moved to Vancouver to pursue a Master of Theology, reflecting her deep faith and intellectual curiosity.

Beyond her professional life, Janice had many passions, including orchids, quilling, politics, theology, and cherishing time with friends and family. Her kindness, wisdom and unwavering faith touched the lives of many.

Janice will be deeply missed by her brother Everett Wolter, sister Brenda Klosse (Gerald), Clifford Cardinal (Rhoda), favorite nephew Nathan Klosse (Dani), and numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, and dear friends from both Canada, USA, and Scotland. Although she is no longer with us here on earth, her memories will comfort us.

A celebration of Janice’s life will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1:30p.m. at the Bethel Union Evangelical Free Church in Leslieville, Alberta. Lunch will follow at the Leslieville Community Hall.

Condolences

Lois Pegg:

It's hard to believe that dear Janice has left us. She was such a vibrant, wise, and godly woman. Reta our sister brought her into our family's life when they were roommates and housemates in Three Hills and Edmonton. She remained a dear family friend and was a comfort to us when Reta passed away. Deep condolences are extended to Janice's family at this time of loss.

Peter and Darlene Wright :

It was with sadness that we just heard of the passing of Janice. She was a dear friend of my sister Reta and so became our friend. She was an amazing and down-to-earth lady with so many talents.
We offer our sincere sympathies to your whole family.

Beverly MacKay:

Childhood years have many memories of visiting the Wolter's on their farm. It was on one of these visits that I recall speaking with Janice regarding our mutual love of playing the piano. I so enjoyed listening to her play especially church music. I did not like the "choppy" style that so many musicians used and asked Janice why her's was different. She said she chorded and did I want to learn. I said yes so she sat right down and taught me. To this day I have integrated chording with my left hand into church music. Thank you Janice.

Gail Briggs (Heuser):

To the family of Jan Wolter,
I was saddened to hear of Jan?s passing.
I got to know Jan when we were classmates together at Calgary General Hospital. Really enjoyed our visits at our class reunions.
She was a smart, kind compassionate nurse. One would be well cared for if Jan was your nurse.
Sending condolences to her family.
We will miss you Jan.
Gail Briggs (CGH class of 64)

Wilma, Richard and family :

Sending our love and deepest sympathy to you all at this difficult time. X

Robert & Ruth:

Our deepest sympathy and love to Everett, Brenda and Gerald. May you be comforted as you mourn, remember, and celebrate the life of Janice. Our family friendship of over 65 years have a deep bond. As a teen I joined Janice in the ministry to children in Wabasca along with the Stone family. Janice wrote letters to us for over 40 years of ministry in Asia. She prayed for us, our family and the people of Thailand. Visiting over these many decades were a delight as we learned how she was open to the Lord to learn of Him. We miss her.
