Kelly’s Obituary
1987 - 2022
Kelly Philip Smith was born on November 16, 1987 at the Red Deer Hospital and passed away surrounded by family at the Red Deer Hospital on July 28, 2022 at the age of 34 years. Kelly attended Leslieville and David Thompson schools and knew at a very early age that he wanted to be an electrician like his dad. Kelly enrolled in the RAP program in high school and had earned his journeyman certificate by the time he was 23 years old. He was a hard worker and had his own quarter section of land in the Alhambra area paid off in just a few short years. Although he was an electrician, Kelly also had a little farmer in him. He would help his uncles on the farm during silaging and combining. Kelly enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, quading and snowmobiling. He went on many trips to Big Stone and out west camping and fishing with his grandpa and grandma Smith, ice fishing on Pepper’s Lake and Buck Lake with his grandpa Shippelt and uncles Kevin and Erwin, and a few annual trips to Lake Thekulthili, Northwest Territories with his uncle Dale, cousins Jason and Keith, and others. The annual hunting trip to northern Alberta with his uncle Kev and brother-in-law Jordan was a much anticipated holiday for him. He also really enjoyed snowmobiling trips in BC with his cousins Keith and Colin. Kelly enjoyed reading, his favourite books were westerns by Louis L’Amour, and sports. Kelly and his sister Shelley spent hours playing basketball together in high school. He was a fan of the Calgary Flames (much to his mom’s disapproval), the Toronto Blue Jays and the Denver Broncos. Kelly will be lovingly remembered by his parents Philip and Teresa Smith, sister Shelley (Jordan) Lewis, niece and nephew Mackenzie and Carson Lewis, brother Brennen Smith, grandmothers Doreen Shippelt and Kay Smith, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his grandfathers Rudolph Shippelt and Robert Smith, cousins Robert Smith and Tristan Smith, and aunties Nola Shippelt and Val Smith. Kelly, we love you and will remember you always.
Memorial donation on Kelly’s behalf can be made to STARS or Ducks Unlimited.
A celebration of Kelly’s life will be held at the Eckville Community Center, Eckville, Alberta on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at 2:00 PM. Interment will precede at the Eckville Cemetery, Eckville, Alberta.
