Irene Dilys Kautz

We are saddened to announce the sudden passing of Irene Kautz on May 10, 2022.

Irene was the eldest child of Dilys and George Burroughs and was born in Drumheller. The family moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1940 where she completed her education. She met her ‘cowboy’ Carl at the Baker Memorial Sanitorium in Bowness where they both worked. After their marriage in 1952 they moved to Killam where their three children were born. In 1975 they moved to her childhood farm in Rocky Mountain House.

Irene was very involved in the day to day running of the farm. As the children were growing, she enjoyed many 4-H activities and sporting events. She was a member of the Royal Purple in Killam and Leslieville and worked at Westview Lodge for 10 years. Irene loved reading, western movies (including anything John Wayne) as well as spending time with her friends and family. As an accomplished horsewoman, she competed in local fairs and was still riding until the age of 85.

Irene is survived by her children Glenda (Scott), Marty (Cheryl), Clint (Elaine) and her grandchildren, Taylor, Sara, Jesse and Brady. She is also survived by her sister Joan, sister- in- law Adele and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Carl, brother Raymond and brother- in- law Laurie.

A service will be held at the Rocky Funeral Home in Rocky Mountain House, AB on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 1:00 pm.

Memorial donations in Irene’s name may be made to Westview Lodge or STARS.

So sorry to learn of Irene's passing. She was a lovely feisty lady who we loved. My wife and partner Wollene passed away on May 8th. Perhaps they are having a fine conversation now about old times. Frank

Linnea Kautz :

We are SO sorry about Irene, we talked to her earlier this year and we always have fun, even on the phone, and Ed always calls her : “The Prairie Chicken”. She seemed to be so UP BEAT, so it was a shock to both of us. We’ll never forget our trip to Alaska with Karl and Irene…oh my goodness…so many laughs, we couldn’t count them all, we really did have a wonderful time! We both would very much love to be at her service and see all of you, but it is such a LONG drive for us now. We pray she is at total rest now, that is for sure and we pray that God gives all of you the Peace that Passes all Understanding that only He can give. We love each and everyone of you and wish we weren’t SO FAR AWAY from each other, but I guess that is life eh! We send our love and blessings to each one of you, and I know you all will miss her a lot, and so will we! She has been a great sister-in-law to Ed, and we definitely are going to miss our telephone calls! Lots of love from both of us….Ed and Linnea

Lorelei Wilson (Kelm) & Dorothy Kelm:

Dearest cousins Clint, Glenda & Marty,
My mum & I agree that Irene is the sweetest most gracious lady ever...& resilient, being that she had to put up with my gramma's brother & his shenanigans, ha!!! My parents Rubin & Dorothy spent a lot of their younger years with Miss Irene & Carl & I would hang out with Glenda...good times.
Now Irene is in the loving arms of Jesus, the best place to be.
God bless you dear family.

Jim and Mary-Ann Veenstra :

Clint, we are very sorry to hear of the loss of your mom. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Elaine and your family through this sad time.
