Obituary

Anderson, Russel
1934-2020

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Russel Hedwin Anderson on October 6, 2020 in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Russel was born on September 17, 1934 in Sylvan Lake, Alberta to Olive and Hedwin Anderson.
Russel attended a country school at Hardindell, where he got his grade 8. He then started working at logging and cat skinning. On November 28, 1958 Russell married Stella, then in 1963 Russell got his welding ticket, which took them on many adventures: from Eckville, Red Deer, Slave Lake to finally settle down in Rocky Mountain House. Russel chased rigs and pipelines all over Alberta, then at 81 years old, while working at Challand Pipeline, he passed the C.W.B. and was the oldest welder to pass that test in Alberta, which was one of his proudest achievements. Russel’s motto was ‘Anything you could buy, he could fix’ and he could make anything you couldn’t buy. He loved the outdoors: from pack trips, quadding, sledding, fishing, road trips in the motorhome and let’s not forget gold panning.
Russel’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandbabies, who each one played in his shirt pocket.

Russel will be sadly missed by his wife Stella; his sons: Cecil (Shelly), Wayne (Cherry), Eddie (Marcinda) and Raymond (Debbie); his 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 expected great great grandchild.

Russel was predeceased by his parents: Olive and Hedwin, his son Randy, granddaughter Marcinda, grandson Cody, nephew David, brother-in-law George Holenko and brother Danny.
Russel will be in our hearts, forever and always.
As per Russel’s request no service will be held.

Memorial donations in Russel’s name may be made to the Cancer Society.

Darcy Dirsten :

My condolences to the family. I worked for Russ when I was 18. I learned so much from him, from welding to machining. He’d show you how then turn you loose. I still use many one liners I heard from him. I appreciated him breaking me out. He was a good man for sure. I’m sad to hear of his passing.

Russ was a hard working and honest guy, giving lots and not expecting anything back. He was a great mentor to me working at Flint Engineering - taught me so much about welding and pipelining. We had a lot of respect for each other. Russ was so good natured and had a great big laugh that could put a smile on your face. One of The Good Guys .. thanks for being a friend Russell, going to miss you.
