Doreen Hannah Shippelt
1941 – 2023
It is with complete shock, heartbreak and sadness that we, the family of our beloved mom, grandma and great-grandma announce the peaceful passing of Doreen Hanna Shippelt (nee Kujala) on October 7, 2023 at the age of 81 at the Olds Hospital Long Term Care. Mom was born on November 17, 1941, in the Eckville hospital to Mildred and Ensio Kujala. She was the oldest of three children. The family lived in the Hespero area, and mom attended Daisy Nook and Condor schools for her elementary years and attended David Thompson High School. Growing up, mom was in the Evergreen 4-H sewing and gardening clubs, played on the school baseball teams and enjoyed farm life. On January 9, 1960, she married Rudolph Shippelt, and together they raised a family of five children. The family lived on the farm in the Stauffer area. Mom was a hard worker; milking cows, raising chickens, cattle and pigs and took pride in growing her beautiful garden and flowers.
Mom was so proud of all her family and always wanted to check up on us.
Mom is survived by her loving children: Erwin, Sharon (Rick) Stauffer, Teresa (Phil) Smith, Kevin (Tina), and Rita; grandchildren: Wes (Kristine) Shippelt, Taylor Stauffer, Shelley (Jordan) Lewis, Brennen Smith, Kira (Logen) Keast, and Curtis Shippelt (Kess Bramley); great-grandchildren: Collin, Graham and Jeremy Shippelt, and Mackenzie and Carson Lewis. She is also survived by her sister Florence Wacher, sister-in-law Maria Kujala, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mom is predeceased by her parents, Mildred (1997) and Ensio (1998); husband Rudolph (1999); brother Gerald (2008); daughter-in-law Nola Shippelt (2018); and grandson Kelly Smith (2022).
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday October 21, 2023 at the Leslieville Hall at 11:00 a.m., with lunch and fellowship to follow. A private interment for the family will be held at the Evergreen Cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada and to the Olds Hospital Long Term Care.
