Obituary

Anderson, Daniel

It is with great sadness that we announce the last ride of Dan Olaf Anderson, who passed on March 7, 2020. Though he fought with all of the grit that one would expect of a cowboy, in the end, cancer proved too strong and he could fight no longer.

Dan was born on June 27, 1941 to Hedwin Anderson and Olive Wilson in Hespero, Alberta. In his youth, Dan-O preferred hard work in a bush camp, and hitch-hiked to the site where his mother cooked for the crews. Throughout his life, he worked on numerous oil rigs, both at home and overseas. He established Ram River Ranches, where he raised horses, elk and longhorn cattle. He saw many of the beautiful places in the world while working and playing, but his true passion could be found in the West Country, in the hills and passes of the Rocky Mountains - whether it be on pack trips, hunting expeditions or clearing his adopted trail. In his later years, he and Deb spent many hours in the hills, looking for wild horses. Dan was born to be on a horse and in the mountains is where he thrived. Dan will always be remembered for his big smile and his ten gallon hat.

Dan is survived by his partner Deb, his siblings Russell (Stella), Marion (Dan), Bernie (Barb), and his children Ron (Debra), Charlette (Dave), Tawnya (Kodi), Kyle (Sayword), as well as his grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and many other family and friends. We will miss you and wish you a safe ride, wherever that horse may take you.

Dick and Gail Kent:
We haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you Deb, but for sure please accept our condolences. Dan and his siblings are my (Dick’s) first cousins, and when we were kids we spent a lot of time together. Much later, I remember helping Dan navigate his way through tickets and security etc on his first overseas trip from Edmonton to Norway, how long ago that seems now.
Our very best regards to all of my Anderson cousins and to their extended families too.
