Terry Vernon Olson
December 20, 1950 – February 4, 2024
With great sorrow we announce the passing of Terry Vernon Olson on February 4, 2024 at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandpa, uncle and friend to many.
Terry was born in Edmonton, Alberta on December 20, 1950 to Alice (Hernberg) and Joe Olson. Terry spent the formative years of his life growing up in Lindale with his mess of siblings, and cousins. Leaving home as a young man to work on the oil rigs. He married Benita Sterling on May 31, 1974. They had three children, Kevin, Jolene, and Dean.
Terry worked on the rigs for several years before he took up welding to be home with his kids. He welded in Drayton and Rocky until he retired in 2016. Throughout his life Terry enjoyed playing ball, boating, fishing, golfing, watching CFL, and spending time camping with his family. Terry was a skilled hobbyist inventor and engineer, and while he may not have always got it right on the first try, it did not matter. As a lover of big, roaring bonfires, screaming fireworks, and all things that went kaboom – if it blew up in his face, that was only a bonus.
Terry is survived by his wife Benita, son Kevin (Krista) Olson, granddaughter Khloe daughter Jolene Olson (Bryce Johnson), grandson Logan Niemi, Dean Olson (Tara Randall), grandchildren: Randell (Chad Houle), Rhownen, Rhyiden, Rexleye Olson-Besuyen; their mother Courtney Besuyen, great grandchildren: Ruchleigh, Rhenley, and Rheindrick. His siblings: Judy Morrison (Tom), Brian Olson(Julie), Delores Olson (Carl Myshak), Violet Olson (Bruce Sanderson), Debby Olson (Mike Kernahan), Coreen Sleno (Roger), Darwin Olson (Cindy Platz), Darcy Olson, Melody Olson; Benita’s siblings who loved him like a brother. Multiple generations of nieces and nephews, and lots of cousins who loved him dearly.
He was predeceased by his parents Joe and Alice Olson, brothers Jim and Ricky Olson, sisters Charlene and Tammy Olson.
In lieu of flowers donations in Terry's name can be made to STARS Air Ambulance or the Cancer Society.
Please join the family for a celebration of life on Saturday February 17, 2024 at the Royal Canadian Legion in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta at 1:00 PM.
