Pike, John (Jack)
1942-2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John (Jack) Pike on May 9th, 2023, at the age of 80 years. He passed away at home peacefully.
John Franklin Pike (Jack) was born in Eckville on August 4, 1942, to parents Marjorie and Frank Pike
He was the 4th child of 7 children. He went to school in Red Deer, Faraway, and Rimbey and at the age of 14 went to work in the sawmills at Faraway. He moved from the sawmill to work for Harwell Construction out of Rimbey hauling equipment for the oilfield in the Rimbey/Faraway area. From there he worked out of Manning for Standard Gravel and later for Robert Smidt. During this time he hauled lumber to Yellowknife for the mines and oilfield equipment to Rainbow Lake. He hauled equipment into the discovery well in Rainbow Lake. In this time he also met the love of his life, Geraldine Mann (Nelson) and they were married in 1965, where he became an instant father of three children (Doug 4, Yvonne 3, and Roger 1). Jack and Geraldine added to their family with the birth of Blaine in 1967 and Jaqueline (Susie) in 1968.
In 1967 he moved the family to Faraway and went to work for Rimbey Wireline. Two years later the family moved to Rocky and he started Rocky Mountain Steamers in 1969. In 1974 he sold the steamer business and went to work for Harwell Construction, the Town of Rocky Mountain House, and Leonard Rob between 1974 and 1979.
In 1979 Jack started his long career in the oilfield production business. He started with Homestead Oil and endured several corporate name changes, starting with Bow Valley Resources, to ICG Resources, and ending with Saskoil. After Saskoil, he then developed BJ igniters for use in the oilfield for safer lighting of oilfield process equipment.
Jack was always looking for new challenges so, he and Geraldine decided to take on a new adventure with managing the Rimbey Grande Hotel, which they did for two years before the oil patch lured him back in 1997. He then went consulting for Clarence Stewart until he retired at age 65.
Jack loved the outdoors and throughout his entire life he enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, snowmobiling, and spending time with family (especially family reunions). Family meant everything to Jack, and he always made time to spend with family doing the things he loved. Jack and Geraldine also enjoyed the time they spent in Yuma in their retirement, meeting new friends and getting away from the cold for a short while.
Jack was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Frank Pike, his siblings: Gordon, Alleda, Ralph, Maxine, Kelsey, and Kathy; several brothers and sisters-in-law, as well as Geraldine’s parents, Esther and Norman Nelson.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, his children: Doug (Tammie), Yvonne (Doug), Roger (Shawn), Blaine (Sasha), and Susie ( Roy); 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Marg, and brother-in-law Keith, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at Flinn’s Funeral Chapel in Rocky Mountain House on Monday May 15, 2023, at 1:30 pm. Interment will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery.
