Obituary

Phyllis Anne Rhein (Kreye)
December 24, 1923 -November 13, 2022.

Dearly loved mother of Judy (Kenn) Rudd; Gordon, Glen, and Jim (Lorie) Rhein.
Grandmother of Chad (Monique) Rudd, Nancy (Bernie) Lublinkhof, Amanda (Brandon), and Edward Rhein. Great Grandmother of Cory (Kaylee) Fossen; Tyler (Katie), Tia (Jordan), and Kearah Rudd; Danna (Andreas), Rayna, and Amaya Lublinkhof; Robert, and Cole Rhein. Great-great Grandmother of Carter Fossen, and Willow-Mae Rudd.
She was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) on July 24, 2000; her parents Hilda and August; siblings: John, Gordon, Clarence, Vernon (Roy), and Harry Kreye.

Phyllis was born to Hilda and August Kreye on the family farm in the Inga district southwest of Stoney Plain, Alberta. As the only Daughter mom was a big help to her mother keeping the home in order while the boys ran the farm. She got her early education at the Lucknow school. She then had to board out to complete her high school in Stoney Plain. She then attended the University of Alberta, becoming a teacher. Mom taught school for four years near Lousana, at Brule, and Entrance, Alberta. She met Robert Rhein in 1945 and they married on August 22, 1947. They celebrated the arrival of their first child Judy, in 1950. In 1952 they started on the construction of the forestry trunk road from Nordegg, south to Ricinus. They lived in an eight by twenty skid shack, that moved with the work. Where mom cooked for the construction crew over an open fire and a wood stove. They moved to Rocky Mountain House in 1954. Three boys completed the family: Gordon 1956, Glen 1958, and Jim 1961. They built their current home in 1957. Mom was active in the community volunteering at the I.O.D.E library and was an instructor for C.G.I.T. group. Both mom and dad were civic minded and were involved in many community activities. They enjoyed retirement and spent winters in Arizona. Mom was very active and independent until she had a fall in 2016. She then had to move into the Clearwater Centre. Mom’s faith, and fellowship with Friends in Faith, sustained her. With fierce spirit, quick wit, and kindness she will be remembered by all who knew her. She lived her life with grace and dignity as the years robbed her of her independence and mobility.
A grave side service will be held in the spring.

To the family:
Your Mom and Dad were the first to welcome us when we moved to Rocky 50 years ago and a lasting friendship started then. I will miss my visits with your Mom, especially when Glen would tow her wheelchair over so we could have tea in the yard.
Rest in peace, Phyllis.
