Obituary

Roy Arthur Heikkinen was born at home in Bingley, Alberta on October 26, 1929, and passed peacefully in his sleep at his home at Westview Lodge at the age of 95.

He attended Golden Heights and Leafland schools and spent his younger years helping the family with lumbering, operating a small sawmill, cutting ties and firewood, as well as farming. In 1955, Roy and his brother Tauno bought a bulk fuel and service station in Leslieville, formerly owned by Harry Lloyd. Along with operating the service station and delivering bulk fuel around the surrounding area, he drove a school bus for Les Finkbeiner and continued farming. In 1980 Roy partnered with Bob and Sheila Menzies to form H & M Dairy but after a year decided that dairy farming was not for him. Roy also worked the oil rigs, drove gravel trucks for Joe Crutchfield, worked as a battery operator and on oil field reclamation projects for Pidherney’s.

In October 2020 Roy moved to Westview Lodge and resided there until his passing. Roy enjoyed old time music, playing cards, dancing, watching curling and all ball games- especially the Blue Jays.
His quiet, gentle nature will be missed by many.

An Inurnment and family memorial will be held at a later date.

Predeceased by his parents Ida and Matt; siblings/ spouses Tauno (Thelma), Fred (Vivian), Irene (Ralph), brother-in-law Curtis Morton. Roy is survived by his sister Eila and numerous nieces and nephews of the Heikkinen, Menzies, Judd, Baker, and Morton families; cousins including several in Finland and many friends.
