John “Jack” Richard Astley
August 8, 1940 – January 14, 2024
Jack passed away peacefully at Sunset Manor January 14, 2024 at the age of 83.
Jack was born Aug 8th, 1940, to Reginald and Marguerite Astley in Mannville, AB. Growing up with 3 siblings, Miles, Reece and Yvonne. Predeceased by his Parents, siblings; Reece and Yvonne, Wife Babe, son Shane and grandson Ricky.
Jacks’ early years were spent moving around with the family all over Saskatchewan and Alberta till they settled in Ponoka. He attended College in the US while playing hardball. He loved baseball.
Jack then met Babe, Todd and Shane and became a family of 4. Lots of horseback trips to the mountains, road trips to the states including Graceland. They would move to Peers, residing there for most of their years on the homestead farm. Raising Quarter-horses, Catahoula pups and many cats. Jack was an oilfield operator and worked in the mill. He participated in horse shows, attended local gymkhanas and rodeos.
You never caught Jack out of wranglers, a clean button up and a cowboy hat. He was full of jokes, wise cracks and always a light at any function. Having grandchildren stay at the farm for the summers, he had no problem poking you with a fork if your elbows were on Grandmas table. Driving school bus for the local kids, was a highlight of Jacks life. Stories he loved to share for many years.
Later in life, he liked going for scenic drives with a DQ blizzard in hand, always commenting on everything around. In August 2022 for his 82 birthday, he sat copilot in a side cart on a leisurely motorcycle ride to Dickson Dam feeling like he was 25 again.
On behalf of the family, thank you for all the kind words, stories and condolences. Jack will be truly missed! We can just imagine the greeting when you arrived upstairs! Rest easy old man we love you. Burying you with your boots on so you can keep kicking ass wherever you end up.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Sunset Manor, on behalf of Sunshine Lane. Where Jack spent his last few years being adored by the healthcare staff. They took very good care of their Jackie.
As per his wishes no service will be held. Let’s take a moment to remember the man we all knew and loved.

Tracy Blanchard:
Wow this made me reflect and giggle as Jackie always had a wise crack and kept dad chuckling for two days after getting together with him. A lot of antics that were all light hearted and fun for all of us to watch or listen too. Rest in piece Jackie and try to stay out of trouble with dad!!!
