Obituary

In loving memory of William Thomas Cunningham.
It is with deep sadness, we announce that Tom Cunningham, our loving and devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all whose lives he influenced, has passed away on July 18, 2022 at the age of 89 years.
Tom was born on May 9, 1933 to Cora and Harry Cunningham in Bents SK. (near Rosetown). Tom was the youngest of two children. His sister Grace is 2 years older. He was raised on a farm near Bents SK until the family moved to a farm in the Dovercourt area in 1947. His sister Grace was already living and working in Calgary.
He went to school in Rocky Mountain House for one year. He said there wasn’t much sense continuing his education when he was already smarter than the teachers.
After leaving school he worked on the drilling rigs.
Tom met and married Peggy in 1958. Peggy had four children from a previous marriage, Larry, David, Wanda and Randy. Tom and Peggy bought a farm in the Dovercourt area down the road from his parent’s farm. They then added four more children to the family, Mitchel, Orran, Bert, and Crystal.
Tom was a hard worker and expected the same from his children, building fences, picking rocks and everyday building up of the farm. He was especially proud of his large herd of range cattle. Tom and Peggy planted big gardens to feed the family with the children doing their share of the garden work.
He was active in the community, involved in minor hockey, curling, rodeo and community projects.
A couple of his favorite past times were curling in the winter and golfing in the summer months.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Peggy April 24, 2022. He is also predeceased by his parents Harry and Cora and daughter-in-law Jacquie
He is survived by their 8 children: Larry (Linda), David (Marsha), Wanda (Phil), Randy (Belinda), Mitchel, Orran (Cindy), Bert (Shawna) and Crystal (Maurice); 24 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, his sister Grace, many nieces, nephews and countless friends.

Tom will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.

The family thanks the Country Manor staff for their personalized care for past 2 ½ years.

Geraldine Haney-Ross. :

My deepest sympathies to you all. Tom was the neighbor next door when I was born. We have been friends ever since. Was always glad to see him and his lovely wife Peggy. As a mare of fact I felt the same about you all. Was delighted if I and when I got to see you again. Hugs to all
