Obituary

Willem (Dick) passed away on April 18, 2024, in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta at 94 years of age. Born at the start of the depression on May 30, 1929, in Ten Boer, Netherlands, Willem was the third of six children. He was one of the many who left the Netherlands for Canada and landed in the Granum area.

In 1963 he married Eltje Bos, and had 5 children: Frieda, Trudy, Jantina, John and Remko. Elly and Dick moved to Rocky Mountain House in the summer of 1966, after purchasing their first farm in the Arbutus area. Throughout his life he had many vocations from farm hand, heavy duty mechanic, lumberjack, and dairy farmer among others. Dick was always a practical joker with a wry sense of humor and a voracious reader. He had an adventurous life after his children left enjoying floor curling, crib, speed skating, and cycling. At 75 years old he completed 100km at the silver skate in Sylvan Lake with speed skates.

Willem loved his grandchildren, often getting down on their level, gifting them with warm memories. He will be missed by Frieda (Frank) Viejo, Trudy, Jantina (Richard), John, Remko (Jacquelyn) and 7 grandchildren.
