Obituary

Elaine Heather Blezard was born August 5th, 1946, in Renfrew, Ontario to Rev. Herbert and Muriel Blezard and passed away Sept 24th, 2024. She was predeceased by her brother, Ted Blezard, and survived by her sister, Connie Holmes, and her nieces and nephews, Victoria Blezard, Tamara Spence (Chris), Geoffrey Holmes (Alison) and Robert Blezard, 5 great-nephews and many cousins in Ontario, Alberta and BC.
In 1947, the family moved to Saskatchewan where she grew up in the small towns of Boharm, Shaunavon and Eston. She attended the U of S, Regina campus and graduated as a teacher in 1968. Rocky Mountain House hired her for her first teaching position, and she taught at Lochearn Elementary School, teaching grades 1 through 4 at various times until she retired in 2003. Elaine enjoyed teaching and loved the children she taught. Rocky Mountain House was her home and as her health failed the place she chose to stay.
Elaine loved to travel, and her holidays were spent exploring Europe, Hawaii, Canada from coast to coast and visiting family in BC and Ontario. Scrapbooking was a hobby, and she made many lovely scrapbooks with her photos. Her photos tell the story of her appreciation of natural beauty and there are many pictures of sunsets, flowers and scenery. She was a member of Northern Crossing Music and Drama Society, acting and singing in many of their productions including the first one. Elaine always loved reading and in her later years as her eyesight failed, she was delighted to discover audio books.
Elaine’s faith was a big part of her life. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mountain House, serving on the session and singing in the choir.
The last 15 years brought many health challenges for Elaine, and she handled them with great strength and grace. Her family appreciates her community of friends that enabled her to stay in her own home until she moved to Park Avenue in Nov. 2022 for the care she needed.

Gerda Groothuizen:

I first met Elaine just over two years ago when she donated much of her furniture to the Ukrainian family that I was hosting. This donation was so much appreciated by the war-torn family and helped them immensely! Since then, I grew to know her better through the Presbyterian Church and through West Country Family Services. She was a lovely, strong, uncomplaining model of humanity whom I had the fortune to help in my small way. I will miss you, Elaine.

Herb & Winnifred Risto:

I met Elaine five or six years ago in the condo on 49th, in Rocky.
She was very kind and allowed us to park in her space in the parkade.
She was kind and easy to talk to.
It was great to see that she had a love for the Lord.
We will meet again!
She is with the Lord. There are no more health challenges!
We send our condoleces!
Herb & Winnifred Risto

Michelle Joseph:

I met Elaine in 1993. It was my first year teaching at Lochearn School. Unfortunately my home burned down that October. Elaine bought me a teddy bear to replace the one from my childhood that I lost. It is named Goldie and I still have it and think of her kindness during a challenging time in my life. I am deeply saddened to hear of her death and send my condolences to her family and friends.

Kathy Murch :

Elaine was my colleague at Lochearn School. I always appreciated her bubbly personality and positive outlook. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Lisa Horth:

Such sad news!
I had the fortune of her teaching me in Grade 4. She was such a fantastic teacher, and a kind lady.

Elaine was a teaching colleague and close friend for many years. She was always optimistic, cheerful and full of grace and courage as she faced many health issues in her later years. I will miss our visits and phone calls.
Rest In Peace, dear friend.

Barb McNair and Glenn and Valerie McNair:

I, along with my mom and dad, had a spontaneous visit with Elaine and Connie, who was visiting from B.C. , last August on the patio at Park Avenue. We just happened to meet them there among the lovely flowers so they invited us to sit with them and we had a very nice time chatting and enjoying the beautiful afternoon. I’m so glad we did that. I also knew Elaine from Northern Crossing and I knew her to be a caring, gentle, and well-spoken person. We will miss seeing her at Park Avenue. Blessings to you, Connie, and to the rest of your family as well.

Lynda Currie:

Elaine was a good friend and colleague to me at Lochearn School. Elaine taught both of my children in grade two. May she rest in peace.

Alita Hermary:

I got to know Elaine many years ago, 1985 to be exact when Northern Crossing Music & Drama Society got started. Elaine was a great singing buddy, always to have a laugh together and sing wonderful songs. Times were fun and we were young. Elaine, dear friend, rest well. Alita Hermary
