Obituary

Jagt, Terry

Saturday, September 2, Terry Jagt was called into loving arms of her Heavenly Father.

She was the beloved wife to Arnie Jagt for 56 years and wonderful mother to her four daughters: Shirley (Dan) Atwater, Tammy (Mark) Hare, Terri-anne (Doug) Laut, and Tanya (Mike) Heckbert, grandmother to her 17 grandchildren and great grandmother to her 12 great grandchildren.

Terry fought bravely and won her battle with cancer but was too tired to continue with this earthly life. She will be fiercely missed by all of us.

Terry was born in Hagersville Ontario, in 1951 to Alice and Anthony Vis. Her siblings were 2 brothers; Leo (Liz) and Bob (Louise) Vis, 2 sisters; Henny Medema (Mike) and Irene Vis (Clive). Terry attended John Knox Memorial Christian School for her elementary years in Fruitland Ontario, then carried on her education at Hamilton Christian High. She married Arnie in 1967 and started their family soon after. They lived and worked in Ontario building their family of four girls until 1981 when they moved to Rocky Mountain House. Arnie worked for Rocky Mountain House Transport and Terry worked as a custodian for the CRC First Church for many years. Their family grew as their girls married and had their own children. Terry taught her girls how to be mothers and also how to be businesswomen and all four girls needed an accountant, so Terry began to do the books for their businesses as well as the new Covenant CRC. She continued to meticulously and perfectly manage these accounts until 2022 when she had to focus on her treatment. For two years Terry battled cancer but was eventually hospitalised in May 2023 with infections that were exhausting her. She always had a ready smile for her hospital care team and anyone who visited her. Terry loved her family unconditionally and unreservedly; we will strive to live our lives by her example and be worthy of her belief in us.

A funeral service celebrating our wife, mother, grandma, great grandma Terry, will be held at the Covenant Christian Reformed Church, Rocky Mountain House, on September 25, 2023 at 1PM. A private family inurnment will happen later.

For those wishing to make a memorial contribution in Terry’s name, please consider giving to the Central Alberta Cancer Centre in Red Deer, or the SPCA.
