Obituary

Obituary – Dennis Wayne Dyck

March 8, 1948 to March 7, 2020

Dennis Wayne Dyck was born in Herbert, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1948 and passed in Red Deer, Alberta on March 7, 2020 at the age of 72 years (yes, due to the leap year, we are giving him that extra day!). He put up an incredible eight year fight against melanoma.

As a young man, Dennis travelled all over for work as a farm hand, school bus driver, and a butcher at different packing plants…. He then did his welding apprenticeship and obtained his Journeyman welding ticket in 1978. He welded until 2012 and then went into welding inspection with his level one inspection ticket until February 2019.

Dennis could never let grass grow under his feet and was so proud of this achievement. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed building and creating the next new thing from beautiful big ponds to small bird houses. Dennis always made time for family and friends to play cards, fish, hunt, horseshoes, downhill ski, golf, ride a peddle bike, attend family reunions, or just sit down to have a cocktail and talk. He always treated everyone fair and took them at face value. Dennis was an incredible man with a huge personality and a no quit attitude.

Dennis will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife Judy, married 50 years, his daughter Dianne and son-in-law Kelly Hall, daughter Trish and son-in-law Kirk DeFazio, son Wayne Dyck, grandchildren Kelsey, Craig, Brandon, Keanne, Brooklyn, Kirklan, Kira, Hannah, Dayne, Leelan, great grand-children Taelynn, Kaydence, and Lochlin and extended parents of his grandchildren, Kelly Raffan Vallee, Chris Whelan and Kris Bill.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother Sarah and father Irwin. He is one of 11 siblings, Ron (Candy), Randall (predeceased)(Marlene), Lawrence (Ursula), Joanne (Dave), Sandra (Cam - predeceased), Angela (Doug -predeceased), Melvin (Carol), Harvey (Dana), Thorval (Janice), and Laura (Ian - predeceased). He had a very large circle of relatives including aunts, uncles, brother and sister in laws, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at the Blackfalds Community Centre, 4500 Womacks Road, Blackfalds Alberta on Monday, March 16, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta

In lieu of flowers, and if desired, donations in Dennis’ honor may be made directly to the Red Deer Hospice Society, 99 Arnot Avenue, Red Deer, AB T4R 3S6.
