Robert “Lee” Evans was born in Calgary, Alberta on May 5, 1947, and he entered into rest on
March 4, 2025, at his home.
He was the first-born child of Betty and Bob Evans. Lee grew up just north of Caroline, Alberta and attended Caroline School. He spent his early adulthood working on local farms as a farmhand. When he was a little older, he began to work with Ed Hummel sawing lath. Shortly after, he began sawing on his own mill with his brothers and other relatives. In 1970, Lee met the love of his life Christina Kunkel (Evans) at his younger sister’s birthday party. They were soon married and welcomed their first child, daughter Angela, in October of 1971. Their small family quickly grew with sons Quentin in April of 1973, and James in March of 1975. A few years later the family welcomed daughters Carmen in July of 1984 and Sarah in March of 1986. Lee spent many years sawing lath and lumber with his family, and having many adventures camping, fishing and hunting. As Lee got older, he and Christina began to slow down their lumber and lath mill and spent more time cutting firewood. This gave him more time to spend with his grandchildren. He often took them and various other friends and family members to his favourite places, Limestone Mountain, the Ya-Ha Tinda Ranch, and Abraham Lake. Lee’s greatest pleasure in life was his family and he will be dearly missed.
Lee is survived by his siblings, his children Angela (Chris) McIvor, Quentin (Elana) Evans, James (Tina) Evans, Carmen (Geoff) Bradley, Sarah (Derek) Hayton, his thirteen grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife Christina Evans, parents Betty and Bob, in-laws Marie and Herb Kunkel, and brother David Evans.
The service will be held on Tuesday March 11, 2025, at the Caroline Hub at 2:00pm.
The family asks that any donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Lee’s honor.

Linda Magnus-Sipe:
So sorry for your loss. My deepest sympathies to your family members. My prayers are with you all.
Tim & Helga Moerike, Calgary Alberta :
So sorry to hear of Lee's passing. I am a relative of the Kunkel family. Cherish his memories deep down in your hearts. He will never be forgotten.
Carmen, Gerald & Matti:
Rest in peace, my dear friend. I will miss you and forever cherish the memories we shared — the bumpy, adventurous rides you took me on, the great conversations we had by the tailgate, and the delicious buffalo steak you treated me to every time I visited Canada. Your kindness, warm smile, and generous spirit will never be forgotten.
I will always remember the incredible coffee you made over an open fire and how you could always find the most amazing wildlife for us — moose, beavers, elk, sheep, bobcats, wild horses, and more. On our last ride together, we saw that huge black wolf and made plans to explore Grasslands. If I ever make it there, I know you’ll be with us in spirit.
You will always be in my heart
Linda Anger Biggart:
Lee was an awesome friend and neighbor. Walking to school with Loomis boys and Sonny Pittendreigh. Many memories growing up and being a friend forever. He will be missed by many.
Phyllis and Steve:
Dear cousin,
We will miss your stories and crazy trips out west. Frying steak on the tailgate
of the truck out in the wilderness. You have left us with many memories. We might
say good bye in the physical sense but spiritually you are there making us laugh.
Lori Bowers:
