Obituary

Wayne Richard Terpsma

January 4, 1947 – October 18, 2021

We are sad to announce the passing of Wayne Terpsma after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wayne was born on January 4, 1947, in Barrhead, AB. He spent his first school years in Neerlandia before moving with his family to Armstrong, BC and then back to Leslieville and Rocky Mountain House. Wayne was a keen pupil and despite missing many days of school to stay home and work on the family farm, he was an honors student.

At the age of 15, Wayne left school for good and headed for the bush to skid logs with horses in a lumber camp. From there, he chased the drilling rigs, married Sharyn Dickson in 1969, and then bought a couple of trucks and went into business for himself. After a few years on the road, Wayne decided that it was time to fully commit to farming and never looked back.

Wayne worked hard on the farm but also found time to coach hockey and fastball, and watch his kids and grandkids participate in ringette, rodeos, gymkhanas, 4-H achievement days, gymnastics, and dance recitals, always proud of them. Wayne was a strong supporter of the community, serving on Alhambra and Leslieville hall boards and Rocky Agricultural Society, and also was a longtime blood donor.

Wayne enjoyed playing guitar and singing; nothing made him happier than picking a tune with one of his grandkids.

Wayne is survived by Sharyn, his wife of 52 years, and children and grandchildren Jim (Stacey, daughters Elyse and Lacey), Brady (sons Ryan and Carson, daughters Taryn and Avery), Don (Angie, sons Patrick and TJ, daughter Marisa), and Chantel (Robert, son Drew and daughters Jade, Emma, and Madison). He is also survived by his sister Joan Swart, brothers Art (Karen), Jim (Lucy) and Roy (Sheryl) as well as his in laws the Dickson Family and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wayne was predeceased by his parents George and Annie, Brother Doug, infant brother, brother in laws Bob Swart and David Dickson and grandson Joel.

Celebration of Life for Wayne will take place at the Alhambra Ball Diamonds on Saturday October 23 from 2 -4 PM. Please bring lawn chairs.
