Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Janet Doughty announces her passing on Thursday, November 3, 2022, at the age of 77. She passed away peacefully at the Olds Hospital with family at her side.
Janet was born August 16, 1945, in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta. Her parents were Peggy and Samuel Howes and she had four younger sisters: Marie Stuart, Marlene Smith, Irene Wood and Colleen Howes. They were raised and have a long-standing connection in the Dovercourt area.
Janet attended school at the Dovercourt School, Chedderville School and graduated from Rocky High School in 1964. Shortly after graduation she moved to Red Deer, Alberta where she worked at Red Deer Advocate and McGavin Bakery.
After moving to Red Deer, she met the love of her life, Charles (Chuck) Doughty. They wed on November 12, 1966. They lived in the Penhold area and welcomed the birth of their two children, Tina Millard and Shane Doughty. In the early 1970’s they moved back to Rocky Mountain House and settled on an acreage at the Howes’ family farm in the Dovercourt area. Chuck passed away in 1986, Janet continued to raise her family in the community she loved.
Janet lived a full and busy life surrounded by many friends and family. She worked at the Rocky Veterinary Clinic for over 20 years alongside her dear friend and boss Martha Kostuch. Janet enjoyed bowling, curling, gardening, and card playing over the years.
In 2002 she met Duane Rodtka, they lived together as common-law till July 2020 when she moved into Sundre Supported Living for Dementia Care and then in 2021 to Long Term Care at the Olds Hospital.
Janet loved her family and friends, traveling, camping and had a great appreciation of the environment. She was always up for coffee or road trips. Her love for traveling took her on many adventures from Scotland, Costa Rica, Turks and Caicos, Hawaii and many more destinations. She enjoyed many bus trips over the years, meeting people everywhere she went.
Her memory will live on in her children Tina (Jody) Millard and Shane Doughty, her grandchildren Jaydon Millard and Samantha Millard.
