RICHARD (RICK) LEE FEDIRCHUCK
April 19, 1941-May 30, 2022
Rick, the only child of John and Idella Fedirchuck was born in Brooks, AB on April 19, 1941. Unfortunately, his dad passed away when Rick was only 4 years, after which he and his mother moved around wherever her cooking jobs took them, mostly in Central/Southern BC and points in West Central AB.
Rick attended school in Vernon BC, Cranbrook BC, and Kootenay Bay BC as well as in Westaskiwin AB, and Buck Lake AB before finishing in Rocky Mountain House AB.
He married Patricia (Patty) Brown from the Gimlet district in 1963 and ironically his mother remarried the same year and Rick acquired four step siblings.
Together, Rick and Patty raised three daughters, Bonny, Pam and Lisa on the Brown farm at Gimlet.
After high school Rick went to work in seismic and then to the drilling rigs. A few years in Estevan Sask. and Calmar AB saw him drill stem testing before moving to the farm. He eventually went to work as a field operator and then a plant operator for Petro-Can Ltd, juggling farming and 'operating'. He retired from the oilfield in 1999 and together he and Patty enjoyed that retirement for over 20 years. During that time they enjoyed winters in Arizona, summers on beautiful Kootenay Lake BC where he loved to spend time in his boat chasing the elusive Gerrard Rainbow Trout, as well as lots of travelling and camping in between.
Rick suffered unbearable back pain for a few months which resulted in a diagnosis of Multiple Myeloma just four weeks before his peaceful passing at home on May 30, 2022 with Patty by his bedside.
Rick was predeceased by his father John, and mother Idella as well as maternal grandparents Ed & Catherine Pewonka, stepfather Jock Whitesel, father and mother-in-law Stanley & Violet Brown, stepfather - in - law Alfred Kilpatrick and stepbrother George Whitesel.
Loved ones mourning his passing are his wife of 59 years, Patty, his three daughters: Bonny (Garth) Glover, Pam and Lisa (Darrin) Blackhurst; his stepsisters: Donna Whitesel (Doug Schalla), Nancy (Lyle) Oyer; stepbrother Bill (Kathy) Whitesel, grandchildren: Tanner Giesbrecht and his three children Torren, Parker and Rhylen, Jeni (CJ) Ezeala and new baby boy Zayden, Stephanie (Jon) Vautour, Conner and Carter Glover; nine nieces and nephews and their children.
There will be a community memorial in Rick's honor at Gimlet Community Center on Saturday, June 25th at 1:00 PM Please come and socialize and reminisce.
