Johnston (Lyster), Debra Lynn

Debra Johnston passed away at her home near Alhambra, Alberta on August 8, 2019, with her husband Robert and her friend Colleen by her side.

Deb was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on August 30, 1961 to Pat and Rilla Lyster. She grew up and went to school in Rocky, then moved to Red Deer to attend Reeves Business College.

She married Robert Johnston on November 17, 1979 in Rocky Mountain House and their first home together was west of Rocky, in what is now Pinewood Estates. In 1981 they moved to the Johnston farm where she resided until passing.

Deb loved to travel, garden, do crafts and spend time with family and friends. She felt it was important to give back to the community and spent countless hours volunteering and fundraising at her son’s schools. Deb served for many years on the Alhambra hall board and then on the board of West Country Family Services until she had to step down due to health reasons.

Debra is survived by her father Pat Lyster of Rocky Mountain House, her husband Robert, her sons: Colin (Tashina) of Nanaimo, BC and Gregory (Cassidy) of Sylvan Lake, AB; brothers: Tim (Colleen) and Wes (Sheri) both of Calgary, AB; sister Michelle (Paul) of Sutton, Ont. and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

Debra was predeceased by her mom Rilla Lyster.

A memorial service to celebrate Deb’s life will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Rocky Mountain House, AB on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Cremation entrusted to the Rocky Mountain Crematorium.

Joanne Fisher:

My thoughts and prayers have been with you since Debs sudden passing, Robert and sons. I was shocked to hear that she passed on August 8th (the same day as my dad’s sudden passing from heart).
I have so many memories of our growing up years and have gone through photo albums.
I regret being a noble to attend her service.
She is at peace now....
No pain, no discomfort ...
She will be missed!!!
