It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Eveline Menzies on November 11, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Margaret was born on April 12, 1933, on the Holloway Homestead, the first of twins to Fred and Grace Holloway with brother George following soon after.
She loved the simple farm life and never strayed far from the Leslieville area. Her home was fragrant with fresh baking and her door was always open to come in for coffee and a bite to eat. Margaret loved a good laugh and the company of family and friends. She devoted her life to supporting her loved ones and embraced sharing her wealth of knowledge with her grandchildren. Margaret was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbours. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, baking of course and watching curling. Her adventurous spirit took her travelling over the years as well. Several trips to Scotland were among her favourite destinations where she connected with relatives and a good road trip to California or out to B.C. were happy times.
Margaret is survived by her two children, Catherine and Greg Smith and Ian and Loree McLeod. She has four grandchildren, Shane (Colleen) Smith, Christie Smith, Melissa (Chris) Erickson and Jeffrey (Larissa) McLeod. Margaret was blessed with seven great grandchildren, Dylan Smith, Wade and Logan Erickson, Maks and Maisie Roy and Declan and Colson McLeod.
She was predeceased by her husband Alex Menzies and her brothers, Tom and George Holloway.
A funeral service will be held for Margaret on November 21, 2024, at the Rocky Funeral Home with interment at the Leslieville Cemetery. Coffee and lunch will be served at the Leslieville hall after.
Donations can be made on Margaret’s behalf to the Rocky Mountain House Acute Care department of the Rocky Hospital.
