Shippelt, Rita Mildred
1966 - 2024
It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our sister, Rita Mildred Shippelt, on August 25th, 2024.
Rita was born on November 12, 1966, in the Eckville Hospital to Doreen and Rudolph Shippelt.
She was raised with her four siblings on the family farm in the Stauffer district, where she developed a life-long adoration and respect for the animals they raised. Rita enjoyed riding horses, fishing with her siblings, golfing, baking, and numerous other activities. She attended Condor Elementary and David Thompson High School. She enjoyed playing basketball and even attended a week-long basketball camp in Washington at Washington State University. Later, in 1995, Rita purchased her quarter of land in the Oras district, where she moved to establish her farm. She worked incredibly hard to develop her farm into the place it is today. Her beautiful herd of cattle is a testament to her meticulous husbandry, with many late nights and early mornings ensuring her animals were tended to. Rita’s love of nature blessed her with a green thumb which she employed to grow an extensive garden and a colourful array of flowers that she took immense pride in. This homestead is also where she started her fencing enterprise. She took great satisfaction in her skills and expertise in constructing many miles of fencing across Western Alberta.
Rita will be lovingly remembered and missed by her devoted dog George, her cats Elmo, Joe, Jack, and Jill, her sisters Teresa (Phil) Smith, Sharon (Rick) Stauffer, brothers Kevin (Tina) Shippelt, Erwin Shippelt, numerous (great) nieces, nephews, cousins, and her dear friend an neighbour, Wayne Schultz.
She was predeceased by her parents Doreen and Rudolph Shippelt, sister-in-law Nola Shippelt, nephew Kelly Smith, maternal grandparents Mildred and Ensio Kujala, and paternal grandparents Marie and Anton Shippelt.
A celebration of Rita’s life will be held at the Eckville Community Hall, Eckville, Alberta on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00 p.m., with lunch and fellowship to follow. A private family interment will be held at the Eckville Cemetery.
Donations can be made on Rita’s behalf to the Alberta SPCA or the Rocky Organization for Animal Rescue Society (ROAR).

My sincerest and deepest sympathy to the whole family. I got to know Rita when she purchased her farm as we had the pasture quarter that bordered it to the south. We got to be great friends and Rita also did several fencing jobs for us. Her dedication to doing quality work, be it farming or fencing was always evident, leaving a legacy her family can be proud of.
