Irene Rachuk

December 27, 1945 – March 8, 2021

With heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Irene Rachuk on March 8, 2021 at the age of 75 years in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta after a five year long courageous hard-fought battle with cancer.

Marie “Irene” Helen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 27, 1945 to parents Bertha and Amedee Emond. She was their first born, and her siblings to follow were Marcelle and Edgar.

The family lived on a farm outside of Alida, Saskatchewan. In 1963, at a country dance, a young man, Ronald Rachuk, spied a beautiful young girl across the dance floor and he declared “that’s the one I’m going to marry,” and 3 months later they were wed, on January 22, 1964 in Cantal, Sask. Irene and Ron celebrated the birth of daughter Sherry and second daughter Jacqueline while living in Estevan, Sask. Then the family moved many more times before settling in Rocky Mountain House.

Irene, besides caring for her husband and daughters, filled in her hours with passions for sewing and quilting, line dancing, golfing and traveling.

She is survived by her husband Ron of 57 years, daughters: Sherry (Bart) Ellertson, and Jacqueline Quaife; grandchildren: Jordon Sauve, Justin & Stefanie Quaife; sister Marcelle (Don) Clark, brother Edgar (Elaine) Emond, and other extended family.

In keeping with Irene’s wishes, there will be no service held.

For anyone wishing to make a memorial donation, they may be made in Irene’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Alberta Diabetes Foundation or STARS Air Ambulance.

Rocky and Sylvan Lake Funeral Homes and Crematorium, your Golden Rule Funeral Homes, entrusted with the arrangements.

Living in Ontario, I always wished we could have travelled out to Alberta and had more family reunions in Saskatchewan but I always enjoyed Aunt Irene’s visits to Whitby with Mémère and Pépère. It was always a fun time playing the piano together and sharing stories with lots of laughter. I always admired her strength and confidence. She was such a positive person, a hard worker, and a very talented and smart woman. She will be deeply missed. My condolences to Uncle Ron, Sherry, and Jacqueline.
