LeCerf, Genevieve Eleanor
1933 - 2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Genevieve Eleanor LeCerf on October 5th, 2023, at the age of 90 years.
Gen was the 8th of 11 children born to parents Pierre and Blanche (DeBerg) LeCerf in Innisfail, Alberta on July 17th, 1933. They were homesteading in the Hespero area, where Gen started school in New Hill. Her father Pierre had many lumber camps, where Gen helped the family business by working in the kitchen amongst her sisters and Mom, and where the girls also had to do the kitchen and camp clean- up, which was never a fun job. Throughout her childhood, Gen attended many rural schools which were close to the lumber camps in Caroline, Nordegg, and Rocky Mountain House. She attended 11 months of high school in the Convent in Red Deer. She also attended MacTavish College for 8 months in Edmonton.
Gen loved attending dances and going to picture shows with her sisters and their friends. It was then that she met and married Withrow Weaver. Together, they had 6 children, some of which still live in the Rocky area today. Withrow and Gen had a successful oilfield trucking company; LeCerf and Weaver Oilfield Hauling. Gen also drove the pilot cars for the Weaver Escort Service for many, many years taking her through many parts of the Western Canadian provinces sparking her love for travel and adventure. One could say that Gen was somewhat of a social butterfly, always on the go. She had many different passions and hobbies, some of which included: bowling in her ladies bowling league, golfing, the Catholic Women's League, the Oil Wives, TOPS, knitting, leatherworking and many, MANY more! She loved to travel, seeing many different places in the United States and Canada as well as special trip to France that she went on with her son Dave.
Gen spent the last four years residing at The Eckville Manor where she made lasting memories and friends and touched the lives of all who lived and worked there. They spoke fondly of her sense of humor and her jokes and storytelling.
Gen leaves to mourn her 6 children; Laverne (Clifford) Rea- Wetaskiwin, Dave (Mary)Weaver - Rocky Mountain House, Cathleen Watson- Red Deer, Rodney (Kerry) Weaver-Edmonton, Perry (Bev) Weaver Rocky Mountain House and Phyllis (Don) Young-Sicamous, BC; as well as 9 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn her 2 sisters Alice Foord and Theresa (Bob) Zutz, sister- in- law Elodie LeCerf, and brother-in- law Paul Overgaard. She will also be missed by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and their families and countless loving friends.
Gen was pre-deceased by her parents, 8 siblings and countless other cherished family and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Rocky Mountain House, AB on Friday, October 13th, 2023, at 2:00 PM. Interment at Evergreen Cemetery following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in memory of Genevieve.
