Obituary

Dyer, Moira

1939 – 2021

Moira Dyer passed away peacefully on Friday, August 20, 2021 at the age of 81, with her loved ones by her side. Moira was born in Toronto, Ontario on October 30, 1939 to Catherine and William McMahon and was one of 4 children.

Moira graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1957 and began her teaching career at 18 years old; special education was her passion. She met the love of her life, Ross Dyer and was married to him in 1962. She was blessed to have spent the next 20 years with him until his passing in 1982. Moira remained devoted to Ross until her last day.

Moira spent many happy summers and Christmas’ at their cottage named Tanglewood in Haliburton, Ontario. At the age of 79, she bravely moved with her daughter from Toronto, Ontario to Eckville, Alberta to be closer to her grandson, Chris. She was awed by the beauty of the mountains.

Moira was always active and didn’t like to be idle. She was an avid reader, would regularly read a book a week, loved her crossword and Suduko puzzles. Moira was an incredible cook, famous for her turkey stuffing and sweet & sour chicken, as well as her fondue dinners. She was proud of her Scottish heritage: loved her Gaelic sayings and an occasional dram of Scotch or Drambuie would be had. She was a huge animal lover and became a grandma to several pets throughout her life. Her smile and kindness drew everyone to her, strangers would seek her out to have a chat.

Moira is sorely missed by her daughter and best friend, Marie and the light of her life, her grandson Christopher. Moira had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She held a very special place in her heart for great niece Lindsay (Daryl) McMahon and their beautiful children Alexander and Liliana. Moira will also be missed by her ‘adopted’ daughters and sons: AnneMaire Switzer, Carroll Malkin and JJ.

Moira is predeceased by her husband Ross Dyer; her parents, Catherine and William McMahon: and her brothers Patrick (Jo), William (Joan) and sister Catherine (Patrick).

A special thank you to the wonderful paramedics as well as the nurses and doctors in the Emergency and ICU departments at the Red Deer Regional Hospital for the kindness and compassion they all showed to Mom and family when our hearts were breaking.

I am sending a dove to heaven,

With a parcel on its wings.

Be careful when you open it,

Its full of beautiful things.

Inside are a million kisses,

wrapped up in a million hugs.

To say how much I miss you,

And to send you all my love.

I hold you close within my heart

And there you will remain.

To walk with me throughout my life,

Until we meet again.

Rocky and Sylvan Lake Funeral Homes and Crematorium have been entrusted with the arrangements.
