Allan Vernon Erickson passed away suddenly at his home in Leslieville on July 22, 2022, at the age of 58.
Allan was born on November 23rd, 1963 in Calgary, Alberta to parents Elitta and Donald Erickson. He was the youngest child of a family of eight children. The family resided in the Forest Lawn area on 38 Street Calgary, Alberta. In 1967 the family moved to BC and lived in a variety of locations before settling in Victoria. On the island Allan attended school and joined a variety of recreational sports teams.
In 1980 Allan moved back to Alberta and joined his family in Rocky Mountain House. He started working in the family business Elli-Don’s Diner next to the Cow Lake Store which was owned by his uncle Harley Holman. It didn’t take long before Allan met one of his lifelong friends Donnie Sands. Soon Allan started working for Sammie Sands Guide & Outfitting and the two best friends were rarely seen apart. The work was hard, but the pair didn’t miss an opportunity for a little fun and the odd trick or two.
With Outfitting being seasonal and living in Rocky it wasn’t long before Allan started working a variety of positions in the oilfield. He worked on pipelines, facilities and oil rigs for a variety of oil field companies. During these years Allan met Patty and they purchased an acreage near Leslieville beside his parents. While developing the properties, Allan learned how to operate a Skid Steer and became so proficient he decided to go into business for himself.
Allan and Patty were married June 12, 1993, in Creston BC. They soon started their family with the birth of their oldest daughter Avery in 1994, and their youngest daughter Ayden in 2000. At that time Allan was working for West Fraser LVL to ensure a steady income and a benefit package for the family. The repetitive labour soon took its toll on Allan’s back, and he was forced to seek alternate employment. Both girls were in school so Allan took this opportunity to upgrade his education with a goal of becoming a Mental Health Therapist. He was a very social person and had a natural gift for listening and supporting others.
Once Allan completed his upgrading, he applied for a seasonal position with the Rocky Regional Waste Authority and fell in love with this operating position. The feeling was mutual as they soon offered him a full-time position. With a young family to support he accepted the offer and remained working for the authority until it dissolved in 2020. In the spring of 2021 Foothills Tank Rentals offered Allan a position operating a skid steer and various other tasks. He was happily working for Foothills Tank Rentals up until his last day with us.
Allan was pre-deceased by his parents Elitta & Don Erickson, siblings Gerry Owen, Carrie (Owen) Taylor, and nephew Kevin Fontaine.
Left to mourn Allan is his wife Patty, children Avery (Marc Pritchard), Ayden, Travis Leptich (Melanie – children Scarlett, Grayson), siblings Bob Owen, Marilyn Owen, Rick (Vera) Owen, Tom Taylor, Dawn (Ken Osborne), Cindy (Kevin Fontaine) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life for Allan will be held at Rocky Funeral Home on August 9th at 1pm, with a luncheon to follow at the Hardendale Hall.
