Obituary

Langendoen, Ron

Ronald (Ron) Langendoen passed away peacefully at home at the age of 81 in Rocky Mountain House, AB on Wednesday, August 11th, 2021.

Born in South Holland to Cornelia and Bouwen Langendoen in the small farming community of Oostevoorne, Ron was the 10th child out of eleven. He had nine brothers and one sister. After WWII, two of Ron’s older brothers came to Canada. Ron’s parents could see that it would not be long, and their other children would do the same. In a brave decision they decided to move with the remaining nine children to keep the family together. They settled in St. Catharines, ON in 1951.

Ron met Hilda at a skating party on 16 Mile Creek and three years later, on September 4th, 1965, in Toronto, ON they were married. They had three children – Brenda, Barry, and Ronny. In what was starting to become a Langendoen tradition, Brenda, Barry, and Ronny all ventured away from home and moved to Alberta. After the first grandchild arrived, Ron and Hilda also headed out west so they could be close by to see their family grow as more grandchildren came along.

Ron was a quiet man of faith who lived a life of service devoted to his family, church, and community. In Ontario, Ron spent his working years driving trucks for hardware and giftware companies to support his family. In Calgary, Ron did part-time respite and caregiving work leading him to do volunteer deeds behind the scenes without wanting to be known – like giving out grocery gift cards to people who needed food or driving elderly clients to the airport for red-eye flights. Ron also enjoyed being part of Friendship Group for adults with disabilities. People from all walks of life considered Ron as their friend. After fully retiring, Ron and Hilda moved to Rocky Mountain House, AB where Ron enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and playing games with other seniors.

Ron is survived by Hilda, his wife of 55 years; children: Brenda (Dave) Blair of Calgary, Barry (Breana) Langendoen of Clearwater County, Ronny (Carla) Langendoen of Rocky Mountain; two brothers: and 15 grandchildren.

The family wants to express special thanks to the whole care team who made it possible for Ron to stay at home in the last few years.

Condolences

Ruth Krabbe:

My sincere condolences to the family as you mourn the loss of a husband, father and grandfather.
Memories of your time in Calgary were when he had an antique store in Inglewood and Kees would bring items to him to sell. He was a gentle person, cherish the memories and may God surround you with His comfort and peace.
