Hilda Geertruida Maria DeJong
October 24, 1942- July 26, 2023
Hilda Geertruida Maria DeJong passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at the age of 80.
She was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she lived until the age of 18. Her family moved to Canada in 1960 and settled in Edmonton. From there she moved to Red Deer and worked as a Nursing Aide at Deer Home. She married Wesley DeJong on March 8, 1963. They raised 3 children, one son and two daughters. Hilda welcomed and cared for all, but her greatest joy came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who held a special place in her heart.
A woman of many talents, she enjoyed sewing, ceramics, knitting, crocheting and baking. Her generous nature and gift for hospitality meant her door was always open with a hot meal ready in no time.
She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 60 years, Wesley DeJong, son Andrew (Delanea) DeJong; daughters Marina (Ian) Badger, Monica (Jay) Huber and sister Therisa (Laurier) Jule. Nine Grandchildren: Maeghan (Shaun), Rhianna (Jamie), Mikaela, John (Liana), Jacqueline (Blane), Jessie, Victoria (Daniel), Colton (Hailey), Katelynn (Davis) and fourteen great-grandchildren: Aila, Autumn, Eva, Drew, Charlie, Brody, Lucas, Abbygail, Shayne, Cohen, Aiden, Amelia, Cali, Walker, as well as many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.
Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Pieter and Maria Pool and brother Jean Pool.

My prayers and thoughts are with your family. I called your mom/wife auntie Hilda because of how close our families were. If we weren’t at home chances we were at your place. Your mom was so nice and welcoming.

Auntie Hilda was a special person to our family growing up in Rocky. The De Jongs were more than great friends, we were like family, thus the deserved title “Auntie Hilda”. I have so many fond memories of my Auntie Hilda, always welcoming, caring and laughing. Bye for now Auntie Hilda, until we meet again.

Always saw lots of Kids and Grandkids coming and going. Hilda always lit up when she talked of them. Lots of precious memories were made.
