Obituary

May 8, 1937 – October 10, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lavern Paul Leer.

Lavern was born on May 8, 1937 and entered into rest on October 10, 2020 at the age of 83 years.

Lavern was the third child of seven and grew up on a farm in Butte St Pierre, Saskatchewan. He attended school there but dropped out to help on the farm.

In 1959, he met the love of his life, Loretta Schneider, at a dance in Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan. They were married on December 27, 1961. Lavern farmed for the first three years of their marriage and then found work in the oil patch, eventually getting a job with Hi- West Well Servicing in 1971 where he worked until he retired in 2002. Together they raised their five children in Drayton Valley and later in Rocky Mountain House.

Lavern attended many dance recitals, ice carnivals, volleyball and basketball games watching his daughters and granddaughters. One of his greatest loves, however, was hockey. He drove many miles taking his sons and grandsons to hockey games. He even went as far as California for a tournament with his son.

Lavern was always a family man. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved his tractor, playing cards, drinking beer, camp fires, and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was a wonderful husband, father and papa.

He will be greatly missed and always remembered by his wife of 59 years, Loretta, his daughters Marla(Kendall) and Paulette(AJ), his sons, Shane and Tim (Janelle), 8 grandchildren Jesse, Chad (Stephanie), Joshua (Kate), Madisen (Joel), Ryker(Amberly), Cassidy (Riley), Austin (Kailey), and Parker and six great grandchildren Aiden, Liam, Katelyn, Ryane, Rozen, and Owen. He also leaves behind three sisters Mathilda (Bill), Annette (Jordy) and Diann (Ed) and one brother John (Jeanette) and many nieces and nephews.

Lavern was predeceased by his infant son, Clinton in 1962 and son, Paul, in 2016, one grandson Caleb, his parents, Clara and Frank Leer, in laws, Beatrice and Alphonse Schneider, two brothers Ben and Ken Leer, and two brother in laws Ronald and Doug Schneider.

“This is the price you pay for having a great father. You get the wonder, the joy, the tender moments – and you get the tears at the end, too.” Harlen Coben
