Both, Erva

1941 – 2021

Erva Both has had many chapters in her life, but it all began on March 31, 1941, in the small hamlet of Carlos, Alberta. Erva was the youngest child born to Bertha (Beaker) and Carl Heringer. She was raised on the farmstead north of Leslieville. She was a compassionate spirit whose passion was to care for all things, be it animals or people. Her home was filled with love and her door was open. Her adventures included, but not limited to, farmer, taxi driver, cook, owner of her own restaurant, dog breeder and caregiver. Erva was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother (she was always proud of the fact that she had 2 sets of twins in her list of grandchildren), great grandmother, sister-in-law, auntie and the list goes on… Erva enjoyed gardening with her sister Helen, and spent hours canning, baking and freezing the year’s harvest. She always would feed anyone that would stop by for a visit, she also enjoyed music and her favorite was Elvis, she spent many hours singing along to the radio. Erva found fellowship with the Jehovah Witnesses and made many good friends.

Erva Both (Heringer) passed away after a short fight with COVID on October 6, 2021, at the Rocky Hospital. Her last moments were spent with her close family around her, sharing stories and prayers.

Erva is survived by her children: Melanie Both, Kevin Both, and Tammy Hall (Ashley); grandchildren: Jesse Both (Nicole), Dylan and Katlin McDonald (Twins), Emily and Katie Both (Twins), Aaron (Kim), Sara and Abby Hall; great grandchildren: Kayley and Carter; many nieces and nephews and friends that will deeply miss her plus some extra special people in Erva’s life which were: Evelyn Heringer, Phyllis Heringer, Vicky Polnau, Bill McEnulty and Gloria Both.

Erva was predeceased by all 8 of her siblings: Paul, Erwin, Harry, Harold, Charlie, Elmer, Alvin (Shorty) and one sister Helen Hope (Heringer).

“And God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away” Revelation 21:3-5

Erva did not wish to have a funeral service and her ashes will be spread at a later date.

Shirley Arychuk:

Our dear Erva that gave so much and expected nothing in return, she had such a good heart and was always there when needed even though it was hard for her at times. She offered all that she could. I have many good memories that will live in my heart forever, the most treasured ones were when Tammy and DeeDee were in 4-H (horses) together, we would sit, visit and watch them compete, we all had such a great time. Knowing you the way I do I know you will save me a place in heaven right next to you. Until we meet again rest in peace my dear friend. My condolences to the family, I'm sorry shes no longer with us, although in turn it rests in my mind knowing shes in a much better place now.
Love, Shirley Arychuk

Jim and Donna Pearson:

Our deepest sympathy to Erva’s family on her passing.
I still remember spending a cold winter with them in the old farmhouse north east of Eckville while working for Lee. Her home cooked meals provided the calories to combat the cold.
rest in peace

Tammy Pike:

Erva was such a kind woman. Marilyn has a video of her singing to grandpa when he was sick. I know you’d enjoy it. I loved her smile and her hospitality. Tammy you definitely have her smile. I also have a picture of her and grandpa at the hospital when grandma was in there. She was teasing grandpa. I’ll find it for you all. Many hugs to you.
