Obituary

Larsen, Rolland (Rollie)

Rolland (Rollie) Larsen passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020 at the age of 81 with his family by his side. In life Rolland went by many names such as: Rollie, Tub, dad, Grandpa, GG but the ones that would bring out the biggest smiles were GG or Grandpa.

Rollie was born in Saunders, Alberta to Thelma and John Larsen on May 22, 1939. The family moved from the area when he was a young man, but Saunders was always in his heart. He loved telling his family and anyone else about his adventures and misadventures of his life in Saunders. Barb and Rollie made sure Saunders was instilled into their children and grandchildren’s lives with many camping, fishing, reunion trips, and day road trips to Saunders, just because the day was sunny.

On February 9, 1961 he married Barbara Jean Wilson and together they raised five children in the Hardindell area on the family farm. Rollie was an active man who loved sports by participating or coaching them as his children grew. There was a special time of year that both Barb and Rollie liked which was Halloween bringing out the inner kid in both, No costume was too big to take on, in later years the costume he loved the best was dressing up as Santa, or an Elf bringing smiles and laughter to all his precious grandchildren’s faces. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his grandchildren or great grandchildren. He always had time for their sporting or music events, or just moments in their lives big or small. He adored their hugs, kisses and going for side-by-side rides teaching them to drive.

Rolland will be missed by his children: Ivan, Tammy (Andrew) Young, Curtis (Karen), and Kent; his 12 grandchildren: Robyn, Clint, April (Bryce), Carmyn, Vanessa (Nick), Kaylee (Barry), Riley (Trish), Natalie, Lane, Jessy, Austin, and Sommer; 7 great grandchildren: Braylynn, Bryar, Bruin, Lily, Ivy, Willow, and Mason; his brother Raymond (Lillian) the Pond family, and many extended family and friends.

Rolland was predeceased by his wife Barbara, his youngest son Chad, parents Thelma and John Larsen, his brother Chris and sister Yvonne.

A celebration of Rollie's life will be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made in Rolland’s name to the Make a Wish Foundation.
