Obituary

Loraine Cooper
June 1, 1952 – November 12, 2022
It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Loraine Cooper on November 12, 2022. She passed peacefully with family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Loraine was born in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan to Velma and Jeff Gerrard. Through her childhood, Loraine developed her love of animals and compassion for others. Summers were spent at the lake with family.
Loraine met Carmen Cooper while living in Calgary and they married in 1971. They moved to Cranberry, Manitoba where they started their family with the arrival of Corie. Shortly thereafter, they moved to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. While in Saskatoon, Loraine attended hair dressing school and they completed the family with their second son, Jeremy.
Loraine and her family moved to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta in 1980. They were excited to purchase a newly built home on an acreage, where she lived for the remainder of her life. During the early years in Rocky, Loraine raised her two boys, provided ceramics classes in their home basement, cared for sickly horses, and developed life-long friendships with the neighbors. Once the boys were more self-sufficient, Loraine worked at Gulf Nordegg River where she established many dear friendships.
After Loraine’s husband Carmen passed away in 1997, she continued to maintain the acreage and contribute to the community. She was delighted to take on the role of Gramie, doting on her granddaughters Marlee and Rayelle.
In 2003, Loraine remarried to Steve Shamber. Together, they enjoyed travelling to warm destinations until Steve’s illness which took his life in 2010.
Following a few trips to Mexico, Loraine chose to become a snowbird. She enjoyed spending the winter months in Mazatlán, where she expanded her circle of friends.
Loraine was well known for great cooking, her refined style, artisan jewelry, flashy vehicles, and appreciation for wine time.
Loraine leaves to mourn her mother Velma (Jack), Uncle Allan, brother Ken (Gail), her sons Corie (Lori) and Jeremy (Erin), her granddaughters Rayelle and Marlee, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
A celebration of Loraine’s life will be held at the Rocky Funeral Home on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 1pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Loraine’s name may be given to Compassionate Care Hospice Society or ROAR.
