Obituary

Vernon William Haapala

May 5, 1935 - Oct. 26, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving brother and uncle, Vernon William Haapala (Vernie) who passed away peacefully in the Rocky General Hospital on Oct. 26th, 2021, at the age of 86 years.

Vern was the youngest child born to Matti and Anna Haapala in Medicine Hat, AB on May 5th, 1935. Vern and the family moved to the Eckville area in 1941 and resided there until moving to Rocky Support Services in 2000. Vern was well looked after and cared for by many wonderful and supportive and caring staff where he made many friends in the group homes until his passing.

Vern is survived by his brother Wilfred (Estelle), Outlook, Sask., and predeceased by his parents and siblings- Esder, Reino, Arne, Miriam, George, Dora, Pearl, Albert, Grace, Vivian and Dorothy.

A Celebration of Vern's life will be held in the Rocky Funeral Home on Thursday, November 4th, 2021, at 1:00 pm.

Vern will be laid to rest in the Eckville Cemetery with his brothers Reino and Albert who cared for Vern for many years.

Condolences

Doris Lustig:

Although I did not know Uncle Vernie that well, I do have fond memories of him from the few times that I had the opportunity to visit with him. He preferred to talk Finn so I got to talk Finn to him when I visited him. He will be missed as he is the second last one of the "original" Haapala clan left. My sympathy to all the family especially to Uncle Wilfred who is the last remaining one. I love you all!

Gina Koski:

"Safe in the arms of Jesus,
safe on His gentle breast;
there by His love o'er-shaded,
sweetly my soul shall rest."
