Obituary

PULAY, Chris Stanley (June 25, 1927 – May 2, 2022)
Chris Stanley Pulay passed away in his sleep May 2, 2022, at his senior home The Ravines at Park Avenue, at the age of
94. Chris was born in Bashaw, Alberta, June 25, 1927, the 2nd child of 9 children born to Rosie May (nee Zieminek) and George Pulay .
Chris was predeceased by his mother Rosie in 1972, and Father George in 1977, his sisters Georgina in 1926, Jane in 1934, Mae (Wilfred Gervais) in 2013, Rose (Howard Robb) in 2015 and brothers Phillip (Marlene Gault) in 2019, Mike (Marcella Randall) in 2000, and Henry (Irene Smith) in 2022.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Joan Pulay (nee Harris), his youngest sibling Shirley (Dave Arychuk) and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
As a young lad, Chris moved with his parents in 1937 from their Bashaw homestead to the Bingley area. Here he helped his dad clear land, build fences and a home for the family.
Assisting his family with food, Chris became an avid hunter, shooting his first buck at age 13. As was the custom in the early 30’s-40’s, the eldest son went to work, so Chris worked for the neighbor’s and in bush camps. In later years Chris and his brothers ran their own lumber camp. Chris worked in several garages and shops in Rocky and Eckville and trucked for several years, learning all he could about mechanics. He repaired many vehicles, and tractors from mechanics to autobody.
During the years Chris developed many hobbies and skills, such as gunsmithing, and was able to turn a plank of wood, with hours of carving into a beautiful gun stock. Chris had a love for Music and learned to play the (guitar, and his favorite instrument was the violin).
Chris was a very generous young man, who would give haircuts to family and a few locals. Chris met the love of his life Joan in 1972, which led to dating and a marriage.
Together Chris and Joan, then built their own home and farmed in the Cow Creek area for years, later moving to their retirement home in Rocky Mountain House in 2016.
A special Thank You! to Chris’s caregivers and the Rocky Funeral Home.
