Juanita Isabel Vittala passed away peacefully at the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on May, 18, 2022 at the age of 91 years.

Juanita was born in Porter’s Nursing Home in Eckville, November 7, 1930 to Arla and George Lee of the Evarts District and she was raised on the family farm, where her brother Charles still resides.

Nita spent the first nine years of her life going through the Great Depression. Being on a farm, meant they never went hungry, they always had a large garden, dairy products, chickens, and eggs. Juanita attended the New Centreville School, while the 2nd World War raged on, so many things were rationed, never a luxury to be had. They may not have had much as children; they never really knew that they were going without, happy with life as it was. The neighbours all came together to work, helping and visiting.

After school, Juanita worked in the Eckville Hospital before taking a Certified Nursing Aide course in Calgary. Then she worked in Olds, Ponoka Mental Hospital, Deerhome, Red Deer then finally back to Eckville Hospital.

In 1974, she married Ernest Viitala. They built a house and lived in Eckville for several years before buying an acreage beside Eckville. In 2000, they build a new house there and lived in it until they moved to Eckville Manor House in 2020.

Juanita is survived by her loving husband Ernest and brother Charles Lee and extended family.

She was predeceased by her sister Gertrude (July 2020).
