Our beloved Sherrie Kyncl passed away peacefully with her family at her side on April 11, 2025, in the Rocky Hospital.
Sherrie was born in Drumheller, Alberta to Ollie and Edith Clark. She was the youngest of five children. They lived in Drumheller until they bought a beautiful farm in Bergen. The kids could often be found riding horses through the fields and trees.
Sherrie was very hard-working lady all her life. Growing up on a farm in Bergen instilled in her the attitude that once something was decided, get after it and get it done. Like a lot of young women at that time life was not easy. Money was tight but she and Reg raised three remarkable children and also had a hand in raising six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Sherrie met her first love Reg and they began their journey together in Bergen. Reg’s first job took them to a lookout tower out at the Sunchild First Nation.
Sherrie and Reg welcomed Bonnie, Carol into their lives and began raising their little family in Bergen and then later in Sundre Danny came along to complete their family. Reg worked at the Harmattan Gas Plant and Sherrie and Reg along with their kids spent time with Len, Lorna and their children Lenora, Loretta, and Larry.
In 1973 life took the family to Red Deer when Reg and Sherrie purchased a home in West Park and a Union 76 mechanic shop and gas station. Sherrie enjoyed being social and being in customer service while working at the Bay.
Sherrie and Reg moved to their final home in 1979 and spent the rest of their years at the Everdell Subdivision near Rocky Mountain House. Sherries mom and dad came to live with them for several years until they moved them into the lodge in Rocky Mountain House. Sherrie spent many years working at Henry’s Western Wear. Later she was a devoted volunteer at Next to New and Everdell community. All in all, she could be very proud of the difference she made not only to the community but also everyone she met on her journey through life. Sherrie had a group of close friends in her neighbours, and this is when they started welcoming their next favourite people into their lives…. grandchildren. Sherrie spent many hours working in her garden, volunteering at the hall, and caring for others who needed her most. Not only was she a grandmother by blood, but all the neighbourhood kids for many years stopped by Grandma Sherries to pick strawberries, peas, eat cookies or have a cup of slush and blow bubbles. Kudos to Grandma Sherrie.
After the loss of Reg in 2017, Sherrie married her long-time dear friend, Leonard Hengen in 2019. He fast became a very important part of her life and loved by the rest of her family! Sherrie and Len enjoyed visiting friends and family and watching Country music shows at the memorial centre in Red Deer.
Sherrie is survived by her loving husband, Leonard; her sister, Viola (Dot), children, Bonnie, Carol (Duane), and Dan (Rhonda). Grandchildren; Jana (Rob), Jim (Victoria), Heather (Ryan), Jesse, Morgan, Scott (Mel) and great grandchildren; Portia, Ryder, Vanor, Alora, Jasper & Rayna. She was predeceased by her husband, Reg, parents, Ollie and Edith and brothers David, Murray and Don.
A celebration of Sherrie’s life will be held at the Everdell Hall on Saturday, April 19th at 1:00 p.m.
All who knew her are welcome to attend.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Rocky Hospice Care Society.

Anette Chambers:
I've know Sherry since 1999. She was sunshine. Big smile and a warm heart. She worked for West County Services and came once a week to help me with my 2 year old and my triplet babies. I felt like my mom had come over. She cleaned and cooked with Charlotte attached to right hip. Always a kind chat. Even invited us all for supper and cookies.
She loved people (especially kids) and gardening and life. Will miss bumping into her at next to new and grocery shopping.
