Lucille Marie Gasior passed away at Dulcina Hospice on May 30, 2024, at the age of 95 years.
Lucille was born December 20,1928. She grew up on a small farm, outside of Eckville, Alberta, the oldest of 3 children with her parents Antoni and Antonina Gasior. As the oldest child Lucille worked very hard at a young age and due to difficult circumstances had many responsibilities that far exceeded children of her age. She acquired her love for nature which included watching birds, bee keeping, growing flowers and gardening while growing up on the farm. Lucille’s Catholic faith was her guiding principle throughout her life. She had a wry sense of humor and could be mischievous often causing those in her presence to break into a laugh which brought a tickle to her soul.
With her faith giving her strength, her sense of humor and an adventuresome spirit, Lucille left home at 18. She moved to Red Deer, then Brandon, Manitoba, and then to Edmonton. Lucille did many things in Edmonton including winning a sewing machine as an award for being the fastest cashier at Woodwards groceries. This sewing machine was well used over the years. Lucille not only loved to sew, but also had a passion for cooking. She collected recipes and cookbooks, loved to cook all different kinds of foods, and took specialty cooking classes over the years. While in Edmonton she took modelling classes and modelled ladies clothing for a catalogue. This got her interested in hairdressing. Lucille took hairdressing courses until she earned her Journeyman Beautician certification in 1955 and started teaching at Marvel Hairdressing school. She always wanted to be a teacher and loved her job. At a hairdressing conference Lucille was invited to go to the USA to teach. An adventure she wasn’t about to pass up she went to the US and taught at Ballard Beauty School in Seatle, Washington for many years.
Lucille moved back to Canada, to the city of Calgary, when her sister was very ill. Lucille continued being very involved in volunteering, social activities and adventures. She helped at the Kirby Senior Center, putting on dances and socials, making many friends along the way. She met Henry Neubauer there and it was a great match. Together Lucille and Henry enjoyed many dances at the Legion and Kirby Center. They were both accomplished dance partners for many years. They travelled together on bus tours and with friends and family. They were regular visitors to Hawaii for many years escaping Canadian winters whenever they could. Lucille loved travelling, dancing, and Lawrence Welk, classic country, and Hawaiian music. She would listen to music on her radio or hum it and sway along as if she was once again on the dance floor she so enjoyed. Lucille enjoyed the space she had at their home for her flower and vegetable gardens. Working hard every year to keep them in top shape. She especially loved her African Violets for which she won an award.
Lucille had been a dedicated daughter and her love for her siblings never diminished. When she walked the halls in her apartment building with her walker, she dedicated each one of her walks to them.
Lucille lived her life fully, strong in her faith and love of her family, making many friends along the way. She lived until the age of 95 in her own apartment, with care givers needed only the last few years. She recently moved to assisted living where after an emergency trip to hospital her health declined rapidly. She made new friends until the end; she will be missed by many.
Lucille is survived by niece Lois Ritzen (Kieron Ross) of Sparwood B.C, niece Janet (Robin)
Culver of Strathmore, nephew Clark Gasior (Elise Caouette) of Rocky Mountain House,
nephew Wayne (Sherry) Gasior of Rocky Mountain House, nephew Dennis (Jeanie) Mitchell of Edmonton, niece Kim (Ron) Stubbs of Medicine Hat, brother in-law Roy Mitchell of Medicine Hat, long time partner’s daughter Lois Decker as well as numerous other extended families and many treasured friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Antonina Gasior and Antoni Gasior, sister Jean Mitchell and brother Stan Gasior and wife Helen Gasior. As well as her longtime partner Henry Neubauer.

Joanne and Bob Allen:
We used to drive Lucille home, after early Mass on Sunday morning. She saw our two sons grow up, and I would share with her that they are both happily married and have been for 20 years. Both our sons have children( now teenagers) and I would share a lot with Lucille. She was a good friend and she could always ask me any question… we could communicate well. Whenever my husband and I would go on a trip, she would say, “May God go with you and bring you back safely”. I loved Lucille… and admired how well she looked after her affairs. Yes, she was a hard worker and very disciplined lady. I learned a lot from Lucille. May she rest now in Peace to be with her Lord and Saviour.
