Obituary

Doug Yakimetz

July 5th, 1950 – August 29th, 2021

It is with great sadness that the family of Douglas A. Yakimetz announce his passing on August 29th at the age of 71.

Doug Yakimetz was born in Edmonton, Alberta on July 5th, 1950 to Rose and Nicholas Yakimetz. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Teralea Yakimetz (Chris), Tanisyn Blair (David) and Carlene Soetaert (Matthew); his brother David Yakimetz (Bernie) and sisters Caroline Preston (Alfred) and Lori Bolin (Pat); and his 5 grandchildren. He will also be remembered by Ev Bayko and the Bayko family. Doug was pre-deceased by his fiancé Judy Bott and his mother and father.

Doug was a kind, caring man with many talents. He was able to repair, build or invent anything he put his mind to. Because of his talents and kind heart he was always willing to help out family, friends or neighbours in need. Doug was always good for a laugh and loved hosting a haunted house on Halloween for the neighbouring children. Doug enjoyed many hobbies, such as fishing, camping, skiing, farming and photography. Most of all of those hobbies was his love for airplanes. Doug even built his own RV10 four seater airplane.

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Collegeside for the exceptional care and compassion they provided to Doug and his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home & Crematorium on September 10th, 2021 at 1pm. If desired, memorial tributes in Doug’s memory may be made directly to the Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta and Northwest Territories at Alzheimer.ca.
