Denise passed away on September 5, 2024, at her home north of Caroline at the age of 79.
Denise was born on April 26, 1945, in Calgary, Alberta to William (Bill) and Helen Wales.
She is survived by her brother Donald (Rita) Wales.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Donna Feys, her brother-in-law Alois (Slim)Feys and her husband Ted Lander.
Denise’s family moved to the farm south of Caroline in 1948. They mixed farmed and sold milk and cream. This is where Denise’s lifelong love of farming and having cows started. Denise was a champion at hand milking; as they had to milk cows before and after school; so seeing who could milk the most made a game out of the hard work. They all sang and played guitar in the evening. She and Donna sang in the barn while milking most of the time. After graduating from high school in Caroline she attended post-secondary school in Calgary in Business Administration. She then worked in Rocky Mountain House for the school division, but her love was farming. She still came back to the family farm to help hay in the summer as school was out. She and Ted farmed north of Rocky beside Donna and Slim. Ted and Denise sold the farm and bought a quarter north of Caroline to be closer to gradually taking over from Bill and Helen as they began to retire from farming. Denise sold eggs and was known to many in the Caroline area.
Her Celebration Of Life will be held at the Caroline Legion September 23, 2024, at 1 pm.
As an expression of sympathy memorial donations may be made in Denise’s name to Caroline and District Ambulance and Fire Station or STARS Air Ambulance.

Ron Hemstreet:
Condolences to Denise's friends and family. My Mom and Helen were sisters, and as we lived in Calgary, we spent a lot of time visiting my Aunt, Uncle and cousins. Donna and Denise used to head to the barn morning and night with a transistor radio, singing along to the country music station. Water came from the well, lighting after dark came from kerosene lanterns, the outhouse was about 20 yards away (maybe closer, I was a lot smaller then) and heat came from wood we chopped. Uncle Bill tilled the field with trusty horse Dobbin pulling the plow and everyone worked the farm. To keep Donny & I out of mischief, Uncle Bill would hand us a box of shells, a 22 rifle and cans to put on the fence for plinking. A much simpler life and I have many fond memories of my time spent on the farm.
Angela McIvor :
My condolences to all of you. Auntie Denise was always a firecracker and lived her life with joy and kindness. I have many great memories. Playing cards with Denise and Donna was one of the most colourful ways to pass the time. May your memories bring you comfort through these difficult day.
