Lila Jean Raivio
1945-2023
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Lila Jean Raivio at the age of 77, on October 20, 2023 at Rimbey Long Term Care. She was surrounded by her family.
Lila was born in Calgary, Alberta on November 4, 1945. She was raised on the family farm. Lila graduated with honors and moved to Rocky Mountain House to pursue a career in Nursing. During the course of her schooling, she met Ken Raivio, the love of her life and became a mother to Tina, Kenny, Troy, and Brent. They were married June 22, 1976, when he finally made an honest woman of her, and all the children attended the wedding. Lila had many endeavors which included cooking in the guide and outfitters camp, manager at Robinson Little department store, working the front desk at the Mount View Hotel and liquor store clerk at The Tamarack. She also joined Ken around the rodeo circuit when he was running Chariot races, with her brother-in-law Clarence and sister-in-law Betty Raivio. They also had the PMU barn and managed various campgrounds. Lila loved her flowers and gardens. She loved to bake and had her own company Lilas Luscious Pies- You bake, or I bake, for a number of years and then took her skills to numerous companies from Rocky Mountain House to Rainbow Lake. Lila also enjoyed family trips to the mountains where they improvised musical instruments: pot drum set to play along with the guitars, picking berries to preserve. Trips to British Columbia, to gather fruit from the orchards. Lila loved to host get togethers. She enjoyed being surrounded by friends and family. Lila had an open-door policy, everybody gathered after the Auction Market, to see other families, friends and eat good food.
Lila is survived by her husband Ken Raivio, children: Tina Raivio, Brent (Laura) Raivio, Kenny Raivio; grandchildren: Ashley (Jordan) Stewart, Brett, Logan Mayhew; great grandchildren: Bayne, Deirdre, Oliver and Tait; brothers: Elg (Lynn) Young, and their children: Vern (Rita) Young and their children; Walt (Jaquie) Young and their children; sister Sylvia (Keith) Wilder and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Predeceased by her Mother Laura Young (Delbert) Seymore, her father Duncan Young, her Brothers Neil (Linda) Young, Norman Young, her Sister Lucille (Romeo) Spence, her son Troy Raivio, and grandson Skylar Robertson.
A Memorial Service for Lila will be held on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Rocky Church of the Nazarene, 5340 59 Ave., Rocky Mountain House.
