Jean Alma Haupt passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at the Good Samaritan Care Centre in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta on April 16, 2021 at the age of 92 years.
She was born on March 31, 1929 in Calgary, Alberta to Jim and Alice McDonald. She spent the first few years of her life in a small log cabin on the banks of Prairie Creek at Strachan. She attended Pleasantvale School up to grade 8. Grade 9 was taken in Calgary, and she then returned home to finish High school in Rocky. After graduating, she went to Calgary and received her hairdressing diploma in 1949. She returned to Rocky and opened her own hair dressing shop which was located above the old co-op store (above what is now Cactus Jacks barber shop). It was around this time that she met and later married Carl Haupt. They had two sons, Steven born in 1955 and Darren in 1960. In 1965 the family moved to the farm at Strachan and into the new home they had built.
She had a strong bond with her younger and only sister, Dorothy Williams. The two families spent a lot of quality time together, visiting, fishing, berry picking, etc. The two sisters spent every Xmas together except 2020, when Mom was in Good Sam’s and couldn’t leave because of COVID.
Jean was a patient, quiet, trusting person of few words, She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She Loved to cook and help her dear friend Betty Osborne and the ladies at Hardindell Hall functions.
Over the Years, Mom and Dad did a lot of camping and traveling with relatives and lifelong friends. Jean was know as quite a card shark. Perhaps her quiet and unassuming demeanor worked in her favor, as she usually came home with the poker money while Dad came home broke and cranky.
Jean enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren immensely, and they never failed to put a smile on her face.
Jean is survived by her children: Steven (Patsy), Darren (Brenda) and grandchildren, Kale (Sarah), Chelsea (Jason), Dylan (Morgan), and Lindsey. Great grandchildren, Jaela and Jemma. Beckitt and Bowan and Silas, sister Dorothy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Jean was predeceased by her parents, Jim and Alice, and her husband, Carl.
Although Mom is gone, our wonderful memories of her and of her life will live on with us forever.
As per Jeans request, there will be no funeral service.
