On April 21st, peacefully and surrounded by her family, Joan Hoisington passed away at the age of 85 years.
Joan leaves behind to mourn; her sister Janet (Brian), her children Valerie, Sharon, Allan, Jeanie, and Julie; her 10 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren as she became “Gramma Joan” to everyone in the community she lived in.
Joan was born to parents Violet and Henry Caulfield on November 10th, 1939, in Vancouver, British Columbia. She spent her childhood and early adult life in the Vancouver area, where she met and married the love of her life, Reuben Hoisington in 1958 before moving to Rocky Mountain House in the fall of 1981. Joan believed strongly in giving back to the community and she served as a board member for West Country Family Services for 20+ years. She also loved participating in Meals on Wheels and encouraged others to get involved in these programs as well. Joan finally retired at age 69, from where she was working at Alberta Mental Health Services, a job she truly loved because she loved to help others, especially children.
Joan loved to crochet, shopping for a good bargain, setting up her over the top Christmas village, telling elaborate stories, and visiting with friends and family. Joan was always ready for a road trip. Whether it was travelling to visit various libraries of Central Alberta to collect more books on tape or heading south to visit the penny slots in Vegas, she loved to tour around and visit new places.
A Celebration of Life for Joan will be held on Thursday, May 1 at 1:00pm at Rocky Funeral Home.
Memorial Donations in Joan’s name may be made to West Country Family Services and Rocky and Caroline Public Libraries.
The family also wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Rocky Hospital for their exceptional compassion and care.
Condolences may be forwarded to www.rockyfuneralhome.ca.

Cecilia Tarnasky:
To my dear Julie,(and family)—I am sad to hear of your mom‘s passing. I loved her support and enthusiasm all those years you were involved in the Rocky gymnastics club. I think of you often and hope we can get together one of these days to catch up (depending on where you are at this time of your life). Our condolences to you and your family—Cec and Walter Tarnasky
Colleen Salmon:
My condolences to Joan’s family.
I enjoyed her sense of humour we had good laughs worked together at the hospital. In the last few years we had many little visits when we ran into each other uptown. RIP my friend.
