Obituary

Heimbeckner, Catherine (Katie)

1932-2019

Katie passed away suddenly in Red Deer Hospital on December 16, 2019.

Katie was born and raised on the family farm in Goodsoil, Saskatchewan; she was the 5th of 8 children born to Elizabeth and Thomas Schreiber. Katie had happy memories growing up on the farm although times were often hard.

Katie met Jack Heimbeckner in 1952 and shortly after started their family. They were blessed with 6 children. While raising her family Katie also worked at the Goodsoil Hospital until the family relocated to Rocky Mountain House in 1974.

Katie worked at the Petro-Can restaurant before moving to the Walking Eagle where she was employed as a short order cook. It was her love of cooking that made Katie decide that she could open her own restaurant; with a partner, they opened K & K Restaurant. After a brief partnership, Katie became the sole owner of Katie’s Restaurant at the Turbo Station. She had excellent cooking skills with many customers coming for the “Katie’s Burger” and her infamous Clubhouses, her homemade soups were legendary. After closing the restaurant in 1990, Katie moved to Kelowna for a few years to enjoy retirement which she absolutely loved and made some great friends. Katie’s final years were spent back in Rocky Mountain House surrounded by her loving family. Her final home was at the Westview Lodge.

Katie is survived by her children: Clark (Donna) Heimbeckner, Colleen (Kevin) Peterson, Betty (Allan) Spence; daughter–in-law Bev Heimbeckner; grandchildren: Trina Zelasek, Ryan Hamilton-Heimbeckner (Brandy), Scott Hamilton-Heimbeckner (Sasha), Chris Upright (Alanna), Brandon Upright, Travis Peterson, Hannah Peterson (Lem Burke), Matthew Heimbeckner; great grandchildren: Jayden Zelasek, Kala Zelasek, Ethan Hamilton and Hudson Burke.

Katie was predeceased by her ex-husband Jack in 1996, son Maice in 2010 identical twin sons Matthew in 1974 and Mark in 2003.
