Evart was born April 23, 1925, in Lacombe, Alberta; the first son of Charles & Helene Ball. They moved to the Benalto area in 1932 where Evart went to school. He joined the AirForce in 1943-1946. He met and married Lorraine Erickson in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and were married for 63 years. They took a train to Red Deer and stayed with his parents for a couple of months, then moved into a small house on a ½ section of land. In 1960 they built a new house, most of the lumber came from the logs that Evart & family got off their north quarter. Through hard work and more land purchased they named the place Sanda Rosa Ranch where the coffee was always on & where many beer & whiskeys were had there too. He raised cattle and horses as well as growing feed & grain. He lived and worked the Sanda Rosa Ranch for 40 years alongside with his wife and 3 children Connie, Doan, & Ricky. They moved to Struble Lake where he enjoyed his retirement until November 2022 when he moved into the Westview Lodge in Rocky Mountain House.
In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and rodeos. He was a member of the Benalto Ag. Society for several years; he was involved in the rodeo for 50 years. He worked the catch pen until age 65, competed in the wild cow milking, the wild horse race, and the stampede manager. He was the past director for Central Alberta Stampede Association of Canada. Evart had attended 90 Benalto Stampedes in his 99 years young. Evart had a lifetime membership for 60 years for the Elks, head of the social committee, and led one line on the patrol team. He’s been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 50 years. He was a member of Alberta Fish & Game Association for years- he has over a hundred trophies and plaques. His big horn sheep and grizzly bear are in the Alberta record book.
He is predeceased by his loving wife Lorraine, son Ricky, and many, many other family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his daughter Connie (Gerry), son Doan (Shirley), granddaughter Sandy, grandsons Brent (Deanna), Brad & Harlin. Many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Stewart Stephanson:
Connie, Doan and all the extended family.
My sincere condolences to all the family.
It seems I do not recall “not knowing" Evart Ball (and Lorraine). My earliest memory of Evart and Lorraine, was visiting the family on a dark, winter night,
While our parents visited (possibly playing cards). Connie, Doan, my brother Ken and myself, went outdoors to play on a area of cleared ice west of the house.
Then inside to have hot drinks and goodies, afterwards.
I recall, Evart was bemoaning the invention of television (he’d sooner play cards and visit I sensed)Over time, Evart was always big as life, when you were in is company .
Many memories of the Benalto Stampede (over considerable years), the three brothers competing in the wild horse race. Evart was the ear man, not exactly a happy place to put yourself!
I recall a neighbor (Howard Robertson) riding a bareback bucking horse, likely his first and only time . Evart sitting on his mount nearby, yelling spur him Howard!
A favourite memory of mine, was the Christmas concert at Hola one year. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Evart agreed to be Santa Claus that night . It seemed Santa was slow getting into the festivities (Santa’s suit was a bit on the small side for Evart) and his street clothes were visible from his knees down .
As SANTA made his entrance, he was playing the part to his best ability.
Out of nowhere, his son Rick (preschool age), came running up and asked, what are you doing daddy ? It brought the roof down !
My uncle Steve worked for Evart on the ranch (farm) considerable years . There were many granaries in the farm yard; all painted and well maintained. Uncle Steve likely built the majority of them. Evart, told me once (relatively recently) that Steve never had a bank account. He counted on Evart for support. Evart said, "he was proud and happy to look out for Steve." And I know he did over considerable time.
After the move to Struble Lake, I would phone him from time to time . We would talk “ old times “ usually for a hour.
This continued after he moved into Westview Lodge.I have lost a long time friend; but still have a wealth of memories.Sincerely Stewart
Debbie Haddad:
Dear Connie, Gerry, Doan, Shirley and Sandy, and all of the family of Evart and Lorraine. My sincere condolences for the loss of Evart.
When I first met the Ball family.. I felt like part of the group, about 5 years or so, ago, by longtime mutual friend, Lonna. I saw Evart driving his big car around the Benalto rodeo grounds, with his cowboy hat on, stopping by people's campgrounds.. making them feel welcomed. Evart made me think of what a true gentleman cowboy would be like. He had some great stories to tell, and I enjoyed listening to all of them. He really enjoyed his family and all the many extended family members that stopped by to have a chat or a beer with him. I feel extremely blessed to have spent some time with Evart, and all the Ball family. Evart, you did a good job here.. God's speed ,and many thanks ,for your incredible contribution ,to ensure so much happiness and many memories here. Heartfelt thanks to you. Rest easy now.

Candace & John Boissonneault:
Dear Doan and Connie and your families: Uncle Ev was truly one of the old-time gentlemen and Cowboys left in our lives and will never see the likes of him again. My dad (Bud) was obviously cut from the same cloth. A handshake, a pat on the back or a hug, and a smile were always received. I can picture Uncle Ev doing the two step with Auntie Lorraine and sitting around the campfire with my dad reminiscing over a percolated cup of coffee. I will keep that in my heart. Hugs and prayers sent to you and yours.
Steve Ruth Callahan:

Larry Holkestad:
To Connie(Gerry), Doan(Shirley) and all of your families. I am so saddened to hear of Evart's passing. It was a great pleasure to known Evart for the pass 25+ years. I always enjoyed going out to the acreage for a visit and for a little bit of fishing and of course cards and a drink down at the shack by the lake. Your Dad had the best gift of the gab. He told the best stories, and I am sure most were true. I also enjoyed seeing his many, many trophies he had won for both hunting and fishing throughout most of his life. He also had the best mountings of all these animals and fish he had got in his entire basement. It was incredible. So to you Connie(Gerry) and Doan(Shirley), I send you my best wishes, heartfelt condolences, and many hugs to you all. He was truly a remarkable man and I am glad to have known him. He will be missed. RIP Evart, you are with Lorraine once again.
