With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Wendy Watson, a cherished member of our community, born on November 6, 1961, who left us on December 18, 2025, after a long and fierce battle with cancer. Throughout her courageous journey, Wendy faced each day with remarkable strength, warmth, and grace, inspiring all who knew her. Her generosity and compassion shone through every aspect of her life.
Wendy Watson was born, raised and lived her entire life on a farm near Rocky Mountain House. Her father, Chester Sands, was a well-known guide and outfitter in the area, and his deep connection to the land inspired Wendy’s lifelong love for horses and the beauty of nature. She often joined him on trail rides and outdoor adventures, developing a profound appreciation for the wilderness and the simple joys of rural life. Wendy and Chester also participated in competitive horse trail riding events throughout Alberta for several years.
Her passion for music was especially evident—she taught music, tap dance, and voice lessons to countless people of all ages, inspiring them with her talent and encouragement, and performed regularly as a musician in a local band with her family and friends. Wendy’s singing voice was renowned throughout the community, captivating audiences and bringing joy to all who heard her perform.
Wendy's courageous and positive attitude inspired everyone she encountered, uplifting friends and family through even the most challenging times. Her unwavering strength and spirit served as a beacon of hope and encouragement to all who crossed her path.
For several years, Wendy and her spouse, Dave Evans, operated Novel Ideas Book and Coffee Shop in Rocky Mountain House, creating a unique hangout for the community. Beyond their professional roles, Wendy and Dave spent their free time traveling and embracing spontaneous and unique adventures, always seeking meaningful moments with friends and family. Following Dave's passing, Wendy honored his legacy by carrying on these adventures with friends and family.
Wendy is lovingly remembered by her father, Chester Sands, and her former spouse, Lou Watson. Brother, Stacy Sands (Connie); daughter, Carla Watson; son, Dustin Watson; and grandchildren, Liam, Étienne, and Elayna Beaudoin. Nieces, Brittany Sands (Bryn Ball) and Ashley Harrison (Ethan), her nephew, Ryan Sands, and her special friend, Rob Luoma and the Evans family, along with many extended relatives and close friends whose lives were touched by her—and who, in turn, enriched Wendy’s life through their love and support.
Wendy was predeceased by her beloved mother, Dorthy Sands, and her spouse, Dave Evans.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff and caregivers who supported Wendy throughout her journey. Special thanks go to the compassionate teams at the Arthur Child Cancer Center, Calgary Foothills Hospital, Hospiten Bavaro- Dominican Republic, Rocky Mountain House Health Center, and The Ravines at Park Avenue. Their professionalism and kindness made a meaningful difference in Wendy’s care and comfort.
We are also deeply appreciative of everyone who played a part in repatriating Wendy back to Canada from the Dominican Republic. Your efforts and support during a challenging time will always be remembered with sincere appreciation.
Wendy wished to leave us all with these words: “With a song in my heart, remember me with happiness. With a smile on my face and all my love for all of you, remember me happy.”
May her joyful spirit and loving memory be carried forward in each of our lives. We extend our deepest condolences to all who grieve her loss.
A Celebration of Life will take place at the Church of the Nazarene in Rocky Mountain House on January 9th, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.

Do not remember me with sadness
Do not remember me with tears
Remember all the laughter
We shared throughout the years
Now that I am content
That my life it was worthwhile
Knowing I passed along the way
A very happy smile
When you are all alone
And I may cross your mind
Know that I walk in your footsteps
Half a step behind
Please do not be unhappy
Because I am out of sight
Remember I am always with you
Each morning. Noon . And night
